What the Nation is saying about the 2013 Withers (G3)...

As a blogger for Horse Racing Nation I feel an obligation to come up with new and interesting ways to look at racing. In preparation for the 2013 Derby I did my research and wrote a couple of articles that ended up being on the mark.Read More
Well-bred and heroic, Revolutionary lived up to his name in the Withers Stakes. Will his pedigree and dogged determination carry him to the winners' circle of the Kentucky Derby?Read More

  • buckpasser · The Phipps family definitely got the great end of the breeding by buying E. R. Bradley's broodmares at his death. Most of their top horses, like Buckpasser, Personal Ensign etc. etc. descended from the daughters of La Troienne. I also remember two of Fashion Verdict's foals who raced for Ogden Phipps quite successfully. One was Beau Brummell another was Dapper Dan who finished I think second or third in the Derby. · 58 days ago ·

Revolutionary was not the most impressive winner yesterday; Animal Kingdom and Dreaming of Julia saw to that. He hasn’t beaten the most impressive horses out there; the unheralded duo of Escapefromreality and Mylute were the second place finishers in his two stakes wins. He is not even the most high...Read More

  • kedez2012 · I really like him, and that surprises me. I had actually favored Orb for a while, but I found myself talking about Revolutionary to a friend yesterday, and I realized just how high I am on him. I like that he does tend to get himself into trouble, but he also knows how to get out of it. Love those Lane's End breeds. · 53 days ago ·

  • tmallios1 · please, they came home so slw.it was plow horse time.the reason he got into so called trouble is that he has no early lick.trust me,if javie thought he had the horse you all think he did,he would of fired him wide on the turn.he never would of left it to chance to find room on the inside and win by a nose against less than allowance foes.hell,i could look super dunking on a 7 ft basket if no body paid attention.the point is,when he drops back against race horses.he will be no where in sight.definately the most overrated 3yo of this years crop. · 103 days ago ·

  • icyhotboo · "I agree 100% about picking & choosing your spots, but as a service to HRN readers, I provide my opinions on Derby preps as well as MD races. To think that in every one of those races, my opinion MUST NOT be the M/L favorite is insane."Gary Quill/Yes, your position is much different than someone making a wager only for themselves. As you stated you have other considerations which would seem apparent, but obviosly there not. After a while you'll get used to having to explain what should be an easy assumption. I'm a little tired so I didn't look at all your plays but, your selection and wagering structure on the SAM F. DAVIS was something I especially liked. Hope you don't mind, but if you did, or were to wager on that race privately (SAM F. DAVIS) without regard to your article, would you have included the superfecta? Anyway nice job. I'll keep you on my radar. · 109 days ago ·
