  • yukichan · And here comes Gov-eh-nor Charrrrllie making a run with ORB! It's Orb pulling away, Govenor Charlie and Will Take Charge! But It's ORB by 1, Ork by 2, ORB on his way to Belmont --we have a CONTENDER for the TRIPLE CROWN. Full disclosure, as a track coach I preach visualization. · 7 days ago ·

Govenor Charlie's stellar performance in the Grade III Sunland Derby was an exclamation point for owner Mike Pegram and trainer Bob Baffert who also dominated the $200,000 Sunland Parks Oaks with the exquisite filly Midnight Lucky.Read More
  • AndyScoggin · It was interesting that after the race Pegram said Midnight Lucky was going to the Oaks, but he was noncommittal about Govenor Charlie and the Derby. · 60 days ago ·

Imagine if you will, owning a three-year-old and entering him in an allowance race. Then imagine that someone tells you that the allowance race is worth $800,000, and if you win it, you are in the Kentucky Derby. Sounds like a good deal for you as the owner of the young colt … but what about for eve...Read More

  • marylandgq · This question should be asked to the trainers and owners of the so-called Derby contenders who elected not to go in here. Maybe they believe the 6 weeks til KY Derby Day doesn't fit their horse? People (i.e. fans which include the 25k+ HRN members) need to realize plans are put in place for their 3 y.o. WEEKS if not MONTHS in advance. They don't wake-up one day and notice 7 days out that the Sunland Derby came up weak, so let's enter. · 62 days ago ·

Abraham is the one to catch! It's a Pletcher/Baffert showdown. Govenor Charlie will press Abraham on the front with Shakin it up trying to run them down at the wire. I think Abraham will handle the 9 furlongs and stay for the win.
right now i am leaning towards mudflats and stormdriver
  • jmac500 · Mudflats is a good horse but in big races he falls flat and Midnight Lute's Sons will finish 1st and 2nd. · 63 days ago ·

1st- Abraham, 2nd- Govenor Charlie, 3rd- Dry Summer, 4th- Saint Prado.
I love Govenor Charlie in this spot.
VERY Disappointed... Couldn't even draw a full field of 12 for $800,000 and 100 pts. 1/3 of the horses have already ran and the NM track....Is Sunland that bad that nobody wants to send there horses there.

  • cab2536 · The concern that Verrazano did not race as 2-y.o. is so inconsequential that it is laughable. So if had run 1 day sooner than he did, nobody would bring it up -- it's so silly. Times are different for the "modern" racehorse, horses are winning Derbies with 4 starts, having never run on conventional dirt, etc. These days it hardly matters -- tack 'em all up and send 'em out and the strongest, fastest one will generally find the wire first even if they may be a bot short on stamina. Verrazano has as good a shot at winning the Derby as any horse on the trail right now. · 66 days ago ·
