But It's ORB by 1, Ork by 2, ORB on his way to Belmont --we have a CONTENDER for the TRIPLE CROWN. Full disclosure, as a track coach I preach visualization. · 335 days ago ·

It's quite conceivable that Eagles band members, Glenn Frey and Don Henley, could have easily written about the Kentucky Derby as opposed to relationships, when the songwriting duo penned the line "Who can go the distance, we'll find out," in their song titled, "The Long Run." The question is posed ...Read More

  • ismalli · You are correct on how, at a minimum, Dosage lets us know who has the DNA for Derby-Contention; yet, you underplay Post Position, especially with regard to who's inside your horse. Q:Why? · 352 days ago ·

  • Trackside · Ismali--I feel post position in the Derby is overrated...it is a long run to the first turn, and there is planty of time for riders to establish position. However, Post position at times, can be detrimental to some types of running styles, as a handicappers we have to evaluate if a certain post may or may not affect a horse. · 352 days ago ·

Don’t I ever learn? Has watching racing for the past forty years taught me nothing? Shouldn’t it be clear by now that in racing, anything can happen? I’ll leave all those probing personal questions to be overanalyzed at some future time. For now, I will just tell you that Goldencents will not win th...Read More

  • Sully · First it's naysayers commenting on how Flashback was exposed by his respectable second place finish, now it's he was pushed too hard? Athletes get injured. It's just that simple, and if he ran his respectable second with the injury, I say shame on the naysayers. · 373 days ago ·

Well, I think that they had Goldencents better prepared for this race.He rana good solid race and won. As far as Flashback is concerned I never really liked him much anyway. All he has going for him is excuses. This race was no exception. More of the same. All I hear is how he will be better next race because of whatever. Sorry, but excuses only go so far. Racing the way he is currently, he will get beat up badly the first sat. in may!

Like Tiz a Minister, Flashback, and Goldencents (in any order). Also liked Power Broker, just not sure how he will do after a long layoff.
Do you remember the last time a horse won the Santa Anita Derby in his seasonal debut? No? I didn’t either. It just doesn’t seem like the kind of thing many horsemen would try to do. Then again, Bob Baffert is not your average, run of the mill thoroughbred horse trainer, and this rather unlikely fea...Read More

  • Trackside · I have nothing agaisnt Power Broker, but I think the Wood memorial would have been the better spot to run than the S.A. Derby. Sure, he would have to go up againnst Verrazano, but P.B. wouldn't have to deal with nearly the amount of other speed horses that he will in santa Aniat. Going 9 furlongs off a substantial layoff isnt easy for any horse, but doing it against what appears to be an unfavorable race setup is even harder. Nice colt, but this is really a tough spot for him to return. · 376 days ago ·
