Older Comments about the 2013 Rebel Stakes (G2)...

Hey y'all. Usually I post these on the races I'm confident in, but I'm going to do the Rebel Stakes G2 1 1/16 on 3/16/13. First things I noticed in this race was the post positions, the short run into the first turn, and the speed. Delhomme (pp4), Oxbow (pp10), and Super Ninety Nine (pp11) all are QUALITY speed. Title Contender (pp9) is the rabbit here, who will take them as far as he can for as long as he can. Super Ninety Nine, a horse all of you are aware of, does have the ability to rate right off the pace. Many experts and pros have told me post position bias should be the least of my worries. However, think SPEED all breaking from post 9, 10, 11 into a short run to the turn? This race sets up for a closing type with a solid post. The horse I came up with was Treasury Bill. This colt is breaking from pp2. This colt has a beautiful pedigree. Hopping from 7 furlongs, he should appreciate the extra distance and pace set up. He does have negatives, though. In his first two starts "Off Bit Slow" was in the comments, with a short run to the far turn, I believe that is not a good thing. I also noticed how great his Late Speed it compared to others. He really looks like he shouldd fly at the end. As y'all know, probably, by reading these in the past, I generally give a visualization of the race. But, besides my win pick I'm having trouble..... Please posts picks :).

  • Peppermint Paddy · Got me CFC. Curious to see where BB points S99 next. · 616 days ago
  • shackleford · I'm willing to give Delhomme another shot, that effort was too bad to be true. Treasury Bill disappointed and S99 had no excuses. Den's Legacy is a lot like Atigun/Liaison -- seems to run evenly for minor awards. Top two are tosses for me in the Derby. All of these weak preps make Verrazano even more appealing. · 616 days ago
SNN will shine again and Den's Legacy will pck up points as well.
1st- Delhomme, 2nd- Treasury Bill, 3rd- Super Ninety Nine, 4th- Oxbow.
does anyone think that the post will hurt super 99 and oxbow?? (especially since the first turn comes up real quick)
I'm thinking 1) Delhomme 2) Super Ninety Nine 3) Oxbow.
My Picks--- SUPER NINETY NINE,OXBOW,TREASURY BILL!!!!!!

  • travel_vic · most of the serious contenders will have one of two more preps TOPS. · 620 days ago
  • travel_vic · Arkansas, over the last 8 to 10 seasons, has been the very best preps..Good track, good competition surface runs fair (both speed and closers have won the last few Ark Derbies) best place to go....IF you need one more after it, there is the, close by, Lexington at Keeneland. · 620 days ago
If the pace melts down like it did in the SanFelipe, you'll see Treasury Bill win this. S99, Oxbow and Delhomme are gonna make this a hot one! Treasury Bill= Hear The Ghost; Super99= Flashback

  • shackleford · Oxbow taking on a trio of game horses this time around. Outside post again; Smith aboard and recent bullet only pluses. Lower part of exotics is the best case scenario, IMO. · 620 days ago
  • furlonger · Rebel Stakes. Superfecta. 1 - 6 - 7 - 10 · 620 days ago
I like the other Baffert colt to hit the board Den,s Legacy. the new ( stay thirsty )
love oxbow, delhomme and sups 99
  • tcglory · I love oxbow but theses far outside posts are getting rediculous. Hes been in the far ouside posts in 3 of his alst 4 starts all in graded stakes maybe thats why he always goes 4 or 5 wide into first turn which hurts him and cost him a lenght · 620 days ago
Title contender and treasury bill are double entries
Bob Baffert will continue his dominance with a 1st and 2nd place finish in this one.
1st=Den's Legacy, 2nd=Delhomme, 3rd= Carve, 4th=S99
S99 is in post 11 and Oxbow is post 10 and theres only 11 entered in the race, this should be interesting.
who does everyone like this weekend in the rebel?? i know everyone is leaning towards super ninety nine. but give me someone else. my wife loves treasury bill because of me she always bets names she likes anyway. she hits alot of big tickets for $2

SUPER 99--HORSE TO BEAT--
  • Southern.Humor · Unless it is raining, I doubt it. He will take a lot of money though I am sure. · 622 days ago
  • tcglory · yea im not sure he is its gonna be a full field of graded stakes winners or graded stakes palced or stakes winners. And theres alot of speed in the race to set up a closer. And 99 is speed · 621 days ago
Gonna be plenty of pace to run at in the Rebel... I love Treasury Bill here!!!!

Delhomme and Tiz the Truth .. looks to be another way I will have to make a point to go see. Here's for hoping it's not as sloppy as it was for the Southwest.

I would love to see Baffert get a Derby Win!!
  • CauseForConcern · Since Baffert has won it three times, and, with the exception of Carl Nafzger in '07, every trainer since '03 was a first-time winner. Since that's the case, how about Chad Brown? · 636 days ago
  • furlonger · I love Chad Brown! thanks for the reply · 636 days ago
