What the Nation is saying about the 2013 Queen Anne Stakes (G1)...

A basic unknown to the casual American race fan, other than possibly as the horse who won Animal Kindgdom’s final career start, Declaration of War is coming to Santa Anita to run the final race of his own career in the Breeders’ Cup Classic. So just who is this horse that has given his connections r...Read More

  • ILuvTurfRacing · Declaration of War is a very classy horse that's all business once he's out on the track. This will obviously be his first time ever racing on conventional dirt, but War Front offspring has burning up all 3 surfaces in America and abroad. Plus, last season Declaration of War won the G3 Diamond Stakes over 10-1/2f on Dundalk's synthetic track in Ireland, which I've been told probably plays as close to being like conventional dirt as any synthetic track in Europe. The distance or the class isn't an issue at all with this horse. The only question that has to be answered is how he'll handle the switch to dirt? I don't know if Declaration of War will prove good enough to win the BC Classic or not? But I do think he gives Coolmore the best chance they've had of winning the race since Giant's Causeway in 2000 where the race has been held on conventional dirt and not synthetics. · 174 days ago ·

They came, they saw, but they could not conquer. In his final start, Animal Kingdom would regretfully be unable to return the Queen Anne Stakes to foreign shores.Read More

  • travel_vic · Yes the back stretch turf is about 10 feet higher than the home stretch...LONGEST stretch on the turf in North America, kept in very good shape and is right up against the stands unlike most turf courses around. · 301 days ago ·

  • On The Gallop's · It gets very good compliments from trainers who ship in. They favor that course over the others in America. Interesting how the Turf course is the outside course when every other track has inner turf courses. The stretch is what 2 furlongs? or 3 ? · 300 days ago ·

Its a shame he ran so poorly, I wasn't real fond of the decision to go over there especially if this was to be his final start but i get that it meant a lot to GH Motion to run at Ascot. I would like to see them hold off his retirement (even if he'd won) and get him in one good prep race and then shoot for thr BC Turf Mile and take one last crack at that then retire.
U.S. racing fans will tune in early tomorrow morning with bated breath to see if one of our racing heroes can conquer Royal Ascot. Make no mistake, it’s a noble undertaking Animal Kingdom will undergo in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes. An American at Ascot, especially one heavily favored to gain vict...Read More

  • AmbitiousD · Question for everyone. How does the horse know when to switch leads on a straight course? I see this as being tricky for Johnny V when the horse's typical que to change is entering or coming out of turns. I'm sure Mr. Motion will have AK ready for this, but the topic certainly has my curiosity. · 313 days ago ·

  • DanMunn1 · One thing to note - Sheikh Mohammed owns part of the breeding rights to Animal Kingdom. His Godolphin operation own Farhh. I feel it is highly likely that Farhh will scratch out of this contest and aim for the Prince of Wales' Stakes. It'd be very silly for Sheikh Mohammed to run both. He has a vested interest in Animal Kingdom winning · 313 days ago ·
