If you're willing to oppose Sky Lantern in the G1 Nassau Stakes on Saturday you're gonna get some excellent prices on some of the other quality fillies & mares in the race. I know Sky Lantern's a very classy filly, but she steps up from a mile to 10f for the first time in her career in this race, so I'm happy to oppose her at 5-2. Sajjhaa is 8-1 on the morning line having rolled up consecutive wins at Meydan in the G2 Cape Verdi, G2 Balanchine, G1 Jebel-Hatta, & G1 Dubai Duty Free. She then traveled to Hong Kong where she dwelt and completely blew the break in the G1 Audemars Piguet QE II Cup and still managed to get home 4th with only Military Attack, California Memory, & Eishin Flash ahead of her, and the likes of Akeed Mofeed, Ambitous Dragon, Thumbs Up, Igugu, & Irian behind her. 8-1 is a huge price on Sajjhaa IMO and screams for an e/w bet. You also have Ambivalent, winner of the G1 Pretty Polly Stakes at 10f in Ireland last time out at 15-1, Epsom Oaks 2nd, Secret Gesture is at 8-1, and Ribblesdale Stakes 2nd & Irish Oaks 3rd, Just Pretending is 12-1 on the morning line. Check out the prices for this race and you'll see there's a lot of potential value in opposing Sky Lantern.

  • ILuvTurfRacing · A very messy race won by a highly progressive filly who clearly appreciated the drop back in trip to 10f in the Nassau Stakes from 12f in the Ribblesdale Stakes last time out. Wouldn't suprise me at all to see Winsili as one of Juddmonte's entries in this year's BC F&M Turf. John Gosden loves bringing his horses to the Breeders Cup. Especially during years like this one when it's being held in California where he trained for several years before returning back home to the UK. · 506 days ago
  • ILuvTurfRacing · As I said earlier, this was a very messy race and it was also a bit of an odd race with the Coolmore filly Just Pretending very nearly shooting over onto the wrong section of the track at Goodwood early in the race. Either Seamie Heffernan wasn't focused on the task at hand, or it was only because of his level of focus that he was able to react in time to keep her from going astray. My guess is it's the latter that's likely true given that Heffernan gets so few rides these days on the Coolmore 1st strings in G1 races with Joseph O'Brien and Ryan Moore getting the lion's share of those rides these days. Sky Lantern definitely got stopped trying to make her run in this race, but my take is even with a clear run she wasn't gonna win the Nassau Stakes. With a clear path Sky Lantern might've been able to come in at the tale end of making the frame at best, IMO. Based on this race she looks more like a mile suits her better than 10f does. The same for Just The Judge who finished tailed and well beaten. · 505 days ago
