What a return off the layoff! His first race in 5 months sees Glorious Days storms home to win the Mile.
Moonlight Cloud trainer, Freddie Head, told the Racing Post on Friday he's convinced the bookmakers have got the prices for Sunday's G1 Hong Kong Mile wrong, labeling the Richard Hannon trained Sky Lantern "the one to beat." Head said "the trip won't be a problem for Moonlight Cloud, but Sky Lantern might be." Among the international horses who've shipped to Sha Tin for the race, I also think Sky Lantern has the best chance because she's been at her best on fast ground in Europe, which is what she'll almost certainly get on Sunday. That being said, as my friend Euro Trash pointed out on here, the Hong Kong contigent is always tough to beat in their own back yard, which is why I'm picking Gold-Fun over Sky Lantern in the Hong Kong Mile. Gold-Fun has won 5 of 8 starts at Sha Tin in 2013, including the National Day Cup at 7f, plus the Hong Kong Classic Mile, Sha Tin Trophy, & G2 Jockey Club Mile at 8f. In his 3 losses Gold-Fun also ran pretty creditable races, finishing 3rd in the Hong Kong Derby at 10f, 4th in the Hong Kong Classic Cup at 9f, and 5th in the G1 Champions Mile. Should be a great race!!
My Hong Kong Mile super-fecta prediction: 1st-Gold-Fun 2nd-Sky Lantern 3rd-Helene Spirit 4th-Dan Excel.

  • AmbitiousD · Yukichan, I haven't heard anything in the past 48 hours about King Kreesa'a improvement, but the photos on the HKJC website suggest he's doing much better. I've sent some emails to friends in Hong Kong to see if they can find anything out. I'm not going to be able to make it across the Pacific this year, but you can bet I'll be listening to the race radio late on Saturday night. · 132 days ago ·
