Older Comments about the 2013 Holy Bull (G3)...

As I have mentioned in previous posts. It is way too soon to start naming the horses for the Derby. We have not seen horses that will eventually be in the Derby. Many races to run before that great day in May.
  • Dressage3295 · Of course its not. Quite a few derby winners have come out of these preps. Its perfectly reasonable to start paying attention to the winners and horses who run well in these races. · 916 days ago
  • goblin · There are many races still to be run, yes, but the current races (Holy Bull, Smarty Jones, Lecomte, etc.) are awarding points under the new system at this time. · 916 days ago

Fredericksburg and Tuilra Castle are the horses that'll shock people.

  • yukichan · I watched the pre-race interview with Matz and he did not seem all that confident, noting the deep field, saying if he couldn't run with these guys he would go to turf. · 917 days ago
  • cocoa2 · With Dynaformer as a turf sire I would like to see him target turf races and stick to tracks more friendly to turf horses · 917 days ago
Of the horses in this race that have won at this distance (Bobby, Daddy, and Dewey) only Bobby won in a graded stakes... just something I noticed
Tulira Castle, Frac Daddy, Dewey Square, Shanghai Bobby
Taking 1st: Frac Daddy, 2nd: Shanghai Bobby, 3rd: Itsmyluckyday, 4th: Bern Identity
I like Bern Identity to win, Shangai Bobby to place and Dewey Square to show. This is an exciting prep race in that there are 5 or 6 horses I have seen on people's "
Final order... Here we go! 1st- Bern Identity 2nd-Frac Daddy 3rd- Shanghai Bobby 4th- Dewey Sqaure 5th- Itsmyluckyday
  • UnionRagsRules · I'm thinking the order might change a little, but I'm pretty confident in my choices. I would have put Bobby third but the dismay Pletcher showed when he drew the rail, I bumped him back a notch. Also, I really wanted to put "The Daddy" up 1st or 2nd, just have a really good feeling about another solid performance by him. · 919 days ago
Dewey Square 1st and then shanghai followed by Tulira Castle
1st- Frac Daddy, 2nd- Shanghai Bobby, 3rd- Dewey Square, 4th- Bern Identity.
Bern Identity looks like a key in the superfecta on Derby Day if he gets there in may.
  • tcglory · remember my adonis from last year kellys other horse? He was much improved as a 3 year old and had many thinking he was going to be good with a 3rd in this race and a second in the gothom and he didnt even make the field. Tho Bern looks good hes one I need to see win a big race · 920 days ago
  • UnionRagsRules · My Adonis was no Bern Identity. Your out of your mind to even bring that up. · 920 days ago
I like Shanghai Bobby with Rosie up. Rosie won't allow him to ease in the manner that he did in the BC. I think he'll put away Bern Idenity in the last 1/16th.

  • SSilence86 · I think there are some wild cards in here too · 920 days ago
  • UnionRagsRules · I think it will be the other way around, Bern is more of a closer than Bobby. He's beaten him once, but that doesn't mean he'll do it again. I just hope Bern runs strongly and improves even more from his last start. If he keeps improving race by race... watch out come derby day! · 920 days ago
How nice is this one looking. If it holds as predicted we'd have Bobby, Bern, Frac and the Egg going at it.
A dominating performance by Algorithyms last year, now at Claiborne Farms.
Is it possible the Holy Bull (Shanghai Bobby, Bern Identity, Frac Daddy, Dewey Square, Itsmyluckyday, etc...) will be the deepest derby prep of the entire season?

  • Mary Z. · I hope not. Competitive field, though. The way they tend to avoid each other, it unfortunately could be. · 921 days ago
  • geldedridgling · I seriously doubt it because it is very possible that none of these horses make the derby, thanks to the point system. Plus, none of these horse may actually pan out to be any good. Plus, a mile race is not really a true test of which horse can stay 10 furlongs. If you remember, Algorithms, Dialed In, and Winslow Homer won the last 3 editions of this race. 2 of those 3 didn't make the derby and the other finished off the board. · 921 days ago
I predict this race to be one of the best races of 2013.. and I believe we are about to witness an upset in the making ....

I'm going with Purple Egg and Tuilra Castle, if they are in it.
Man this race has some major talent. The winner of this has to get props for beating the field. This race might be stronger than the BC Juvenile was.
Dewey Square needs to show that he belongs in the top tier of this crop of three's....if not win, a strong second or third...concerned he may no be fast enough....last yea IHA and company out west were running 1:42 and change for a mile and sixteenth....would likt to see this group go 1:43 and change.
