exactly what is wrong with todays racing game.do not know if a commissioner ala the 4 major sports would help. do not know if tracks need to have a better line of communication.it seems the key word is "self preservatin" and to the hell with the overall racing game.the issue at hand is coming up this saturday june 29. at CD they are running the G2 Firecracker stakes at 1 mile on the turf. about a 3 hour flight from there, they are running the G1 Shoemaker mile.guess what it is at a mile on the turf. it sure does not take a rocket scientist to figure out why we are getting so many small fields. it seems, except for the elite and creme de la creme races such as the triple crown events and the breeders cup races.it is every man , woman or child for themselves. do not know what the real solution is.but i do know one thing for certain.this sure isn't.
  • Mike in SB · I think a comissioner is exactly what the sport needs. There should be a national schedule that brings horses together from all parts of the country. Top horses from different parts of the country don't face each other on the track except for the Triple Crown and Breeders Cup, there are few rivalries like in the past. All tracks need to unite for the good of the sport, Churchill Downs, Santa Anita, New York Racing etc must realize that their competition is not with the other tracks but is with other forms of gambling and entertainment. Racing in my opinion will not survive unless there is a single authority running the sport like every other major sport in the United States. · 1098 days ago
  • travel_vic · Canada has a single body, the Canadian Parimutuel Agency, that has standards that all tracks adhere to...It makes good sense to have claiming rules, medication rules and everything in between standard from coast to coast AND to have a governeing body actively involved in them. Up until they lost some funding, this organization kep about 25 horses in training and used constantly updated blood work to establish clearances on both standard and newly evloving medications and put out a clearance guide for all trainers to have. · 1098 days ago
