What the Nation is saying about the 2013 Jerome Handicap (G2)...

It’s not that I’ve never seen a horse do what Vyjack did yesterday, because I have. But in forty years of watching the races, I could probably count the number of horses that I have seen do it on one hand. What exactly did the undefeated son of Into Mischief do that was so extraordinary? Simple … co...Read More

  • head_heart_hooves · Vyjack went from being a pace-pressing sprinter in his first 2 to be a front-running router in his next - a logical extension. Certainly no one, absent the connections evidently, expected Vyjack to be so far off of the pace. That was anomolous even though the sample size is admittedly small. The fact he was able to win his toughest race while getting dirt in his face, etc, may not impress everyone, but it sure impresses me. With adaptability and ability to make your own trip so important in the large Derby field, this off-the-pace win is a nice feather in Vyjack's cap. · 79 days ago ·

Vyjack came from far off the pace to win the Gotham Stake (G3) and a probable place in the field for the Kentucky Derby.Read More

There are a total of 2,261 points available in all of the qualifying races on the Road to the Kentucky Derby. With just three months until the first Saturday in May, only 238 of those points have been won. Read More

  • goblin · @george.obrien.3557, The horses who would not have made the Derby field last year were Liaison, Done Talking, and Trinniberg according to this Thoroughbred Times article. This information is located in the very last paragraph, but there is much more to the article, including points earned by past Derby winners over the last 15 years. http://www.thoroughbredtimes.com/racing-news/2012/06/14/points-based-system-will-determine-kentucky-derby-field.aspx · 111 days ago ·

  • AndyScoggin · Gary, According to Rodriguez Vyjack was, and still is to some extent, a real handful to train and thus the gelding. I think that is the main reason he won his MSW at 17-1. · 136 days ago ·

I like Mudflats and Notacatbutallama to run 1st and 2nd.
1st- Long Rover, 2nd- Notacatbutallama, 3rd- Vyjack, 4th- Vegas No Show.
Favored Vyjack handled two turns and an unexpectedly tough opponent in 41-1 Siete de Oros on Saturday afternoon to remain undefeated with a hard-fought victory in the 143rd running of the Grade 2, $200,000 Jerome at Aqueduct Racetrack. Read More

It’s a long way from the first Saturday in January to the first Saturday in May, but for eight newly minted 3-year-olds, the 143rd running of the Grade 2, $200,000 Jerome at Aqueduct Racetrack could serve as a road map to the future. Read More
The addition of Gulfport in this one makes it a nice race. With the probables here I like Gulfport, Notacatbutallama, Vegas No Show, & Vyjack.
Dewey Square, a prominent candidate for the $400,000 Holy Bull (G3) at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 26, galloped instead of working Saturday morning, but trainer Dale Romans sent Gulfport to the track for a five-furlong breeze in preparation for his 2013 debut next Saturday. Read More
