What the Nation is saying about the 2013 Breeders' Cup Mile (G1)...

Has American thoroughbred racing become too enamored with one weekend of racing while forgoing the importance of a solid, yearlong campaign?Read More

  • ekindy · @Ruffianlover I think the differences are greatly exaggerated. Remember Princess took some time off after the Oaks as well. Princess ran exactly one more race for the year than Beholder, and ran exactly one more race than Beholder between the Oaks and the Distaff. Yes it's a difference but it's not so much of a difference that you take the award away from Beholder. And also remember Princess stayed home when other contenders (in fact ALL other Oaks runners if I am not mistaken) ran in March prep races. Are we going to discount her Oaks victory because of that? · 81 days ago ·

  • EP Taylor · I read some comments like The BEST of the BEST run on dirt, or he beat soft fields. Let me just say this. What Dan did in his races aside from the Shadwell 9f poly swamp run was run within himself and ran super fast times in hand. Look at the Woodbine Mile, Maker Mile, The Firecracker, 4star dave, and esecially the breeders cup mile. That was all horse doing his job, and Johnny was a passenger. The Animal is one of the best I have seen grace our turf. I can tell you that the best horses in the USA the last few years have been TURF horses. Wise Dan and Point Of Entry have both been the best older horses and consistent also. NO dirt horse compares with those two in that time period. Also , with the minimal amount of Mile turf races at G1 level in the USA, how do you all expect Dan to run vs G1 winners, when he has won all the major Turf mile races, except the one race on the west coast. If Za Approval(who is a VERY nice horse in his own right) is not a G1 winner, there is a reason for that. Otherwise if no Dan in those Miles, Za Approval could be the one who is a Multiple G1 winner. · 83 days ago ·

  • icyhotboo · EP Taylor, on this point I couldn't agree more. For a person like myself who handicaps primarily from a pace stand point the race run by Mucho Macho Man was easily the best of the day, possibly any day this year anywhere. Others have their speed ratings which were 108 from Brisnet and 112 from Beyer. I had MMM at 117. Naturally this is JMO, but that was for myself the best race of the year on dirt. Considering he ran on the pace with a meltdown at the end allowing WTC and DOW to contest is was just fantastic. This is purely from the perspective of a fan, even though I did wager on him and Fort Larned, I can and do wager totally without prejudice. · 156 days ago ·

Silver Max wins
silver max will put obviously away early due to obviously's cheap speed. The closers will have to come and run silver max down in the stretch if they can.
  • amino998 · What changed your mind? ^^ >> I'm saying he's overrated and this year there will be plenty of speed in the bc and he will fold like a cheap suite wildcat | 9/28/2013 9:54 AM | - Re: Silver Max · 167 days ago ·
