What the Nation is saying about the 2013 Belmont Stakes (G1)...

Based on dosage and adjusted 12F times, my top four would be: Revolutionary, Golden Soul, Orb Unlimited Budget. I'd throw Oxbow and Palice Malice in the mix, too.

I Picked ORB in the Derby, Oxbow in the Preakness, and pick Freedom Child in the Belmont.
Win one, lose one. Win another, lose another. It would appear that Overanalyze purchased a one-way ticket to Inconsistentville. On the other hand, he just might be ready to pull off a Belmont Stakes surprise. Since his career debut on August 9, the Repole runner has a perfect win-every-other-start r...Read More

I would not be suprised to see Revolutionary and Orb enter the gates for the Belmont as co-favorites again. I also would not be suprised to see them both in the money once they cross the line.
it will be repreat of Kentucky derby, race will be between ORB, REVOLUTIONARY AND GOLDEN SOUL, may be followed by Freedom Child and Normandy Invasion!my final selection will be after the Preakness Stakes results.

  • patrick.l.mccaslin · The preakness was a better distance for Oxbow then the KD, plus he had the one spot at churchill. But I will not be using him or any other horse for that matter, Orb included to finish in the top 3 spots at the Belmont. Horses that have raced in both are going to be at a huge dis advantage going into the Belmont. They have raced twice in the last month and it will show come belmont. Also Oxbow in my opinion cannot go 1-1/2. especially on the front end. So all that have raced in both the KD and Preakness are pitches for me. There will be some well rested ones that will do better in this race! · 3 days ago ·

Alot of good horses are in this race. And good pedigree's. I'm sorry Orb isn't here with these contenders.
If Pletcher has 5 or 6 horses in the race, that'll be a joke because in my opinion only 3 of his horses should be in the race and those are Unlimited Budget, Micromange, and Revolutionary.

What about Dreaming of Julia? She should be considered as a viable Pletcher candidate along with Closing Hatches. Although Princess of Sylmar clearly ran the best under the circumstances at the start in the Oaks, it's hard to ignore that Julia was snuffed the worst out of all at the start but still produced a decent run.
  • tmallios1 · dani, please go back to the replay of the race.watch the start.the princess was nearly bent in half.the others just took up a little.down the backstretch she was behind all of them.she cruised by julia and beat her to the spot when johnny v was already riding her.she won going away on a speed favoring surface.if you think that she won because of circumstances in what happened at the start.then the only summation you should come up with.that she was not only the best filly that day.she was tons the best.she was not highly regarded going into the race.after all she won 2 cheap races at aqueduct over the inner track and she lost to hatches on wood day.if you looked at that race closely, hatches was on the golden rail.the princess had her beat, then hatches found a 2nd wind to win.julia was snuffed.why do you not make an excuse for beholder.she acted up badly, threw her rider and was a handful.she ran 2nd.like i said in an earlier post.the success of rachel and zenyatta against the boys has made people think this is now a rule and not an exception.they were all time greats.do not just talk and chat about their greatness.believe it andappreciate it.i do not or ever believe fillies should run against the boys in the elite championship races until they are 4 and older.not because they cannot win,but because it is a brutally tough experience.look at normandy invasion.read what chad brown and the connections said.we are more than likely passing the belmont to preapare for the travers and beyond.these races take so much out of these colts, you can never know.so imagine what it would do to a filly.better yet, send todd pletcheran e mail and ask him how it worked out with rags to riches.granted she won the belmont by beating curlin.but a great racing career was destroyed that day. · 4 days ago ·

i just read on another site that pletcher may be pointing unlimited budget towards the belmont stakes.first let me say, todd will forget more about horse racing than i or all fans will ever learn.i get it,you have to be in it to win it.i could see when rachel ran in the preakness.she destroyed her competition.i could see when todd ran rags to riches.she defeated her competition.unlimited finished a weak 3rd in the oaks going a shorter distance.she did not dominate her competition.yes ,previously she did run very good.but the caliber was not as strong.it almost seems as though todd has so many 3 yo fillies coming up to a race, that he is trying to keep them apart at all costs.when you run a horse in a G1 stake.any horse, you are doing it with the confidence that you can win or at worst finish at least 3rd.that being the case, what is todd telling you about revolutionary ,overanalyze or any other colt he might point to the belmont.he is telling you that a filly who could not beat her own gender ,has just as good a shot at hitting the board as his top colts.personally, not to comforting.

i can see the headlines now.since the star power of orb has faded, the media and public will need a new post to hang their hats on.my prediction,it will be dreaming of julia.she will become everyones wise guy horse.even though she has accomplished hardly anything.she will be the headliner.the only thing i want for the belmont is a full competitive field.i am not looking to crown anyone a superstar or put them in the hall of fame.for this one only guys.let us make it about the race and not the individuals we want to star. regardless, the thing i enjoy the most about belmont stakes day is the same thing i enjoy about kentucky derby day.the undercards are incredible.they are the true stars of the day.after all it is racing that excites us.

  • illhaveanothertriplecrown · as much as I love racing, i see NBC's point of view. they need ratings, people in all sports look at superstars, other than hardcore fans. as for behind the scenes issues for sports heroes, racing is not alone. look almost all the major sports: from mantle to jordan to woods · 5 days ago ·

  • tmallios1 · triplecrown.i agree they should target them.it is not what my beef is.when they aired from 2:30 to 4:30 on their cable feed.they showed the lesser stakes races.when they went live on NBC.they neglected the actual races .the 2 top undercard races one was a sprint, the 0ther 1 1/16th of a mile.total air time would be around 5 minutes.you mean to tell me that they could not of fit it into a 2 hr.program.yet all the announcers kept doing was repeating the same things over and over using different language.they could have served the racing fan and the beginner or casual fan.they chose not to.for whatever the reason.that is my beef with them.a problem is that they are focusing on the big race so much that by neglecting the other races.they are deemed irrelevant to the new fan.it is like if i were not a football fan and tuned into the super bowl .with all the hoopla and coverage and importance of the game.why would i watch the regular season.i would let them play it out and wait for next years big game.same in racing.why should new fans pay attention to irrelevant races.NBC in some way has a responsibility to make the game grow.it should not end with the bottom line from ratings. · 5 days ago ·
