  • yukichan · Hard to look past Grandeur, even with his unfavorable post. Would love to see Rahy take this for sentimental reason, and at those odds, will place a bet on him. Guest of Honour looks good too. Need to see turf conditions closer to Sat. for final selections. · 907 days ago

IMO, Grandeur's recent 2nd in the G2 York Stakes is some of the strongest form coming into this race. Grandeur is rated 115 and carrying a G2 penalty for his wins in America had to concede 5lbs. to the 125 rated Mukhadram at York and was beaten only 3/4 lengths by him. The same Mukhadram's that's been right up Al Kazeem's backside in the G1 Prince of Wales's Stakes & G1 Coral-Eclipse, and there's no question Al Kazeem is one of the top older middle distance horses in Europe this season. If Grandeur runs to the same level he recently ran at York he wins the Million, IMO.

  • travel_vic · correct story, wrong horse...It was because of both Tolomeo and Lashkari that stimulated the research...Cannot recall the one from Europe that we later missed again in spite of the hard work on understanding their turf heirarchy. · 909 days ago
  • ILuvTurfRacing · @EP Taylor, the biggest threat to Grandeur in the Million, IMO, would be if Christophe Soumillon is able to get a big run out of The Apache second start back from the Dubai layoff. The Apache won the G2 Al Rashidiya with the likes of Sharestan and some other good horses behind him, and he had only Sajhaa ahead of him in 2 G1's at Meydan, the Jebel Hatta and Dubai Duty Free. I predict a European super-fecta in the Million this year: 1st-Grandeur 2nd-The Apache(I'll count him as European since he shipped over from De Kock's base at Newmarket), 3rd-Mull of Killough 4th-Hunter's Light or Side Glance? If The Apache runs a big race is the only horse I could see being an issue for Grandeur. · 908 days ago

  • ILuvTurfRacing · Indy Point's a very talented horse, but he'll find running against battle hardened G1-G2 horses coming over from Europe like Grandeur, The Apache, Afsare, Wigmore Hall, Mandour, & Mull of Killough, and talented American horses like Boisterous, Optimizer, & Little Mike a lot tougher opposition than what he's been beating in South America, IMO. I could see Indy Point possibly making the frame, but I personally think one of the European horses coming over this year will win the Million. But TJMO. · 925 days ago
The announcers from RacingUK covering today's G2 Sky Bet York Stakes made the announcement that Grandeur's connections will be bringing him back stateside for the G1 Arlington Million next month. Grandeur ran a fantastic race at York today, beaten only 3/4 lengths by the Prince of Wales's Stakes 2nd & Coral-Eclipse 3rd Mukhadram, and that was with Grandeur giving Mukhadram 4lbs. carrying a G2 penalty for his win in the G2 Hollywood Turf Cup. Also joining Grandeur headed to Chicago from the York Stakes will be the Mike De Kock trained The Apache who ran a very creditable 4th in the race off a 4+ month lay-off. The Apache was last seen winning the G2 Al Rashidiya and finishing 2nd in both the G1 Jebel-Hatta & G1 Dubai Duty Free behind Sajjhaa in Dubai over the winter. The addition of those 2 horses to the Arlington Million field will definitely give the race some substance.
