What the Nation is saying about the 2012 Queen's Plate (RS)...

Canyon Farms’ homebred Strait of Dover, ridden confidently by Justin Stein, made every pole a winning one while taking the $1 million Queen’s Plate, Canada’s most famous horse race, in record time Sunday at Woodbine Racetrack. Read More
Sunday’s 153rd edition of the $1 million Queen’s Plate features a 14-horse field and morning line favorite Strait of Dover shoots for a four-bagger. #4 Strait of Dover (3-1) stretched out successfully in a facile Marine tally May 12 and should be on or near tepid splits from the outset. Justin Stein...Read More

  • buckpasser · Agreed Cocoa. And if the horse industry can't read the writing on the wall, I will tell them that NY will follow Canada. What people don't realize is that the State of NY owns the tracks which didn't before Mario Cuomo the father of the present gov. Worked out a deal with NYRA for funding and continuing the franchise, the tracks were turned over to state in 1970's. When the NYRA franchise expires because of the original deal which is to come in the next couple of years, you wait and see but Aqueduct will be sold and racing will be at Saratoga and maybe at Belmont, but there were plans to turn that into a casino too. · 337 days ago ·

  • buckpasser · I agree TV. What people here don't realize is that American industries from Vegas are looking to put in destination casinos and the govt wants the money without having to split it with the racing interests. The Ontario govt is more than willing to put over 60,000 people out of work to do this. If anyone in the US thinks this will not have a chilling effect on the industry here they are living in lala land. This is going to be the fate of NY racing. Why do you think Cuomo took over the NYRA. I'll give everyone a hint it is not to help racing. · 337 days ago ·

  • buckpasser · I am not sure if any one is interested, but this may well be the last running of the Queens Plate as the head WEG has said that without horse racings integration into the new gaming plan in Ontario, that will be the end of racing both harness and thoroughbred. In case people have not been following this, the elimination of the slots program at the Canadian tracks without any warning will shutter Fort Erie the home of Canada's 3nd jewel in her triple crown at the end of the year. Also 3 harness tracks will close Windsor, Hiawatha, Kawartha by September · 338 days ago ·
