What the Nation is saying about the 2012 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (G1)...

A brief summary on the life of Federico Tesio, the Wizard of Dormello, who reinvented racing and dominated it with an open mind and ambition.Read More

  • Sysonby · Well written piece. There is no question Tesio bred horses who established outstanding breeding lines. I still have to say that ignoring the fact that the mare contributes half the chromosomes to the horse is just a little bit crazy. · 123 days ago ·

  • karen.sweatman.9 · If my comments were clear, I wouldn't have been deemed a "hater", huh, referring to Frankel, I presume? Must be why every square inch of my home has a horse photo or painting covering it. I despise Frankel so much that I just purchased another portrait of him. As for my comment concerning Danedream not liking Japan and sushi, that was intended to be light humor directed at her poor performance in last year's Japan Cup, but somehow it was twisted into me being prejudice against the Japanese, OUCH! Some of you people are thinking too hard. Guess I'll take this as a lesson in communication. · 251 days ago ·

  • footlick · If you can't comprehend your own statement as to how you would LOVE to see this horse prove that Frankel is not the second coming of Christ would lead people top believe you were not fond of Frankel, then I can't help you. My only other conclusion is that you want to be controversial. There is nowhere in that statement that shows any liking of Frankel. Maybe you just want attention, and unfortunately by commenting I'm feeding it. Your statement was very clear, very pointed and not supportive or showing of any liking of Frankel. If you can't comprehend that, then maybe you do need a lesson in communication. Have a great day · 251 days ago ·

  • yukichan · Three yr olds have been pretty stellar at the Arc. Still, as big of a fan as I am of Camelot, I think Orfevre will be toughg to beat. • icyhotboo · I watched it again along with his other races that I could get. He doesn't have a quick turn of foot and needs all of 1/4 mile to run an opponent down which he didn't get in the St. Leger. At the 1/4 pole he actually had to be settled and didn't start his run until 3/16 which by that time Encke got first run on him. The jockey rode with a bit to much confidence as though he we driving a car not riding a horse.I did 1mile 6 fur, that has to take a lot. I checked the times of the other St. Leger's run and it was right in the ball park as the others so aside from what I believe to be jockey error he was the best horse. I certainly wouldn't use that as a prep race for anything.Glad I caught your comments as I was thinking of wagering on him, but not now. · 256 days ago ·

  • MarcelloMarocco · So I guess Sir henry's Cancer and his inability to travel is why they kept Frankel in england and not headed for France. give Sir Henry a break. Champions Stakes is just fine. Where are all the top 10f horses over there dodging him like at York?. The Champions will be a sham of a field because regardless of where Frankel runs, the others will run to the other race. He goes to the ARC the others will run The Champions, and Japan Cup, if he goes to the Champions....everyone else runs for the ARC. · 263 days ago ·

Trainer Ed Dunlop told AtTheRaces.Com on Monday that quote: "He thinks the recent spell of wet weather my force him to rethink his Prix De l' Arc Triomphe plans with Snow Fairy". He went on to say, "It's weather watch now and I believe we've got rain coming in. If it's going on in Paris then we won't be going." End quote. I hope the weather holds, because I'd love to see Snow Fairy get another shot at the Arc after how well she ran in the race a year ago. But if the weather doesn't cooperate, then it's looking like we won't be seeing Snow Fairy again until mid-October at Ascot for either the G1 Qipco Champions Stakes against the boys or the G2 British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes.
DESPITE his star filly Danedream being superseded at the head of the Arc market by Orfevre on Sunday and the recent big race wins of Snow Fairy and Shareta, trainer Peter Schiergen is still confident of doubling up at Longchamp on October 7.Read More

  • Ann Maree · Thank you for giving the nod to the overseas star, Snow Fairy! She is truly awesome and has the heart of a champion, male or female. The most exciting re-match to me will be Snow Fairy and the great German wondermare, Danedream, in the Arc on Oct. 7. They share similar "Seabiscuit-like" beginnings: Snow Fairy was bought back for $2,300 US when she failed to generate any interest at auction as a yearling; Danedream sold as a yearling at auction for about $11,300 USD (about the same as I'll Have Another as a yearling) and she now is considered the best all-time German horse ever. Both I think are smaller than average, being referred to as “diminutive”, “petite”, though I don’t know their actual heights or weights. Danedream set a record in the Arc last year; Snow Fairy set a record in the Irish Champion Stakes on Saturday. The Arc is looking like a clash of the titans, with international stars like Orfevre (Japan TC winner), Dunaden (2011 Melbourne Cup winner), possibly Camelot, but for my money, all eyes will be on Snow Fairy and Danedream to be the match of the decade! · 281 days ago ·
