What the Nation is saying about the 2011 Tampa Bay Derby (G2)...

Between them, jockeys Joel Rosario and Rafael Bejarano have won every riding title at a major meet in Southern California since 2008. However, in search of their first triumph in the Run for the Roses, each will ride long shots in the 137th running of the $2 million Kentucky Derby (Grade I) presente...Read More

There were two races in Florida Saturday that served as preps for the 2011 Kentucky Derby, or at least that is what the connections of the winners are hoping, and the two stakes races provided decidedly different results. His next start should offer very good odds and this horse is better than one bounce shows,if indeed it was a bounce and not the normal for him. · 440 days ago ·

Sam Davis show finisher Watch Me Go turned the tables on Brethren to win Saturday's Tampa Bay Derby (G3). Brethren sat an outside stalking trip in the Sam Davis but Ramon Dominguez sent him after the lead through reasonable fractions of :23.73, :48.20, and 1:12.60 with Watch Me Go and Crimson Knight...Read More
I have been to approximately forty thoroughbred racetracks in my life, and it is always a thrill to add a new one to the resume. • mshutty · Having visited many tracks across the US I would definitely put Tampa Bay Downs in my Top 5. Driving up to that track for the first time I didn't know what to expect. I thought that track might actually be in someone's back yard as I drove on the two lane road through a residential area to get there. Super friendly people, bright, clean, great views of the track. Great place to spend a day with the ponies. My top five tracks for atmosphere are Del Mar, Saratoga, Keeneland, Arlington Park and Tampa Bay Downs. For puring racing it would be Saratoga, Keeneland, Churchill Downs, Del Mar, Santa Anita · 444 days ago ·

  • medlocke · I could be wrong? Lord knows I have been plenty of times. But from what I've seen on conventional dirt thus far out of Uncle Mo, I just really don't see him getting a real stiff test until the premier Derby prep's like the Florida, Arkansas, and Santa Anita Derbies come along. Whichever one Pletcher decides to send Uncle Mo to? My gut says if he send's Uncle Mo to any of the afore mentioned? It will likely be the Florida Derby. Which I believe may very well turn out to be the most competitive this year of all the Kentucky Derby prep's. JMO. · 444 days ago ·

  • footlick · They want 9 furlongs and are willing to run against older horses. Always a crap shoot for a 3 yr old to run against older, more experienced this early in the year. But the main thing was they wanted 9 furlongs. When Gulfstream accommodated Uncle Mo and shortened the Timely Writer and changed the date, it screwed them up. · 452 days ago ·
