  • cugel the clever · For better or worse, there is always a bias towards those horses which can win major stakes at a route. This will eliminate Caleb's Posse. AK, if he'd campaigned the whole season, probaly would have been the 3yo champ. But there's no way he should be given the Eclipse given his short campaign and the quality of his major rivals for the award. · 186 days ago ·

For the past two decades, local trainers Jerry Hollendorfer and Jeff Bonde have been among the best at Golden Gate Fields, each having made a name for themselves in different ways. This weekend's Derby prep races were rather uninspiring to say the least. I haven't been one to criticize 3-year old crops in the past, but jeez this group just doesn't seem to step up when the spotlight's on. Maybe it's because they are pretenders and those that already have the necessary graded ea...Read More

  • Mike in SB · It was funny to see Mike Smith in Rachel's silks, but he seems to be riding a lot of Asmussens's horses. It is great that Asmussen is in California this year. I wish more eastern trainers would ship out for big races. Hey it is a dirt track now! · 433 days ago ·

Bob Baffert still has reservations about the 1 1/4-mile trip of the Kentucky Derby (G1), but he is willing to give THE FACTOR (War Factor) a chance at longer distances following Sunday's victory in the seven-furlong San Vicente S. • gardenesque1 · So much for Baffert taking it slow with this guy. This is what he told DRF after the San Vicente - “You won’t see him going a mile and an eighth soon,” Baffert, a three-time Derby winner, said after The Factor scored a front-running victory in the seven-furlong San Vicente Stakes at Santa Anita on Sunday. “I want to bring him up in increments.
