I know he hasn't won yet this year, but not because he isn't running well ... Let's get him a win in '11. What a career he has had!

Gio Ponti deserves a ton of respect!! He's pretty much single handed carried the flag for the past 3 seasons for American turf racing, and has shown he's also capable of running a big race on synthetic surfaces also. With his 09' BC Classic 2nd behind Zenyatta, and two back to back very respectable run's in the Dubai World Cup on their tapeta surface at Meydan!! Gio Ponti's glory days are most likely behind him now!! But I don't think there's any question at all about the fact that he's been one of the most talented and classy thoroughbred's representing American racing throughout the whole of his career!! Call it a hunch? But I also picture Gio Ponti being successful when he goes off to the breeding shed as well!! JMO.

@BrianZipse, I'll be rooting for Gio Ponti at Keenland this weekend. Even though he hasn't won a race so far in 2011, he still hasn't really run a bad race all season. He's just had the misfortune of running into a cracking good horse from Ireland in Cape Blanco a couple of times this season. But there's certainly no shame in finishing 2nd to him. I think he'll likely have to overcome another talented horse from Ireland in Zoffany in this race. A stablemate of Cape Blanco. Talented though he is, I believe Gio Ponti's class will win out over Zoffany in this race, though. Because I personally don't rate Zoffany quite as highly among Ballydoyle horses as I did Cape Blanco!!

Get Stormy Blows Out for Shadwell Turf Mile
Sullimar Stables’ Get Stormy, winner of the Grade 1 Maker’s Mark Mile here this spring, tuned up for a run in Saturday’s Shadwell Turf Mile (G1) by working three furlongs on firm turf around the “dogs” in :35.40 under exercise rider Javier Cabrera on Thursday morning. “It was perhaps a shade strong,...

I'd very much like to see Gio Ponti notch a win under his belt this season. But I believe he's going to have beat another Aidan O'Brien trained horse from Ireland to do it? Zoffany, who is a stablemate to Cape Blanco, who's beaten Gio Ponti twice this season is coming over from Ireland for the G1 Shadwell Turf Mile. Very talented 3yr.old son of Dansili who was a G1 winner in Ireland as 2yr.old in 2010. He's finished 2nd in two European G1 races this season. He was beaten by 3/4 of length by Frankel at Ascot in the G1 St James's Palace Stakes, and he was beaten by a head in France in the G1 Prix Jean-Prat by another very talented 3yr.old Juddmonte colt, Mutual Trust. Zoffany has the distinction of being the horse that came closer than any other this season to beating Frankel. When Frankel was starting paddle at the end of the St James's Palace Stakes, and Zoffany flew home late to finish to within 3/4 of a length of Frankel. Which was a monster run, IMO. I believe Gio Ponti and Zoffany will be the 2 class horses in the Shadwell Turf Mile. But unlike against Cape Blanco, I feel like Gio Ponti has the ability to beat Zoffany in this race. TJMO.

Keeneland is rather special to me. It's where I got my start in the world of racing - back to the days of Princess Rooney, Life's Magic, Sefa's Beauty, before there was a Breeder's Cup. I used to look forward to both times of the yr. I liked the Fall meet because I knew Florida was right around the corner and I knew I was getting away from all the cold & snow but I loved the Spring meet because of all the fresh grass, the bright, sweet Forsythia blooms, and the hope & excitement of the Road to the Triple Crown.

This spring I got to the Keeneland spring meet for the first time and it was a great experience. I have only been to Keenelland in the fall for the sales, never for racing but it would have to be pretty special to top the spring meet.

Dance and Dance has run primarily in Mile Handicaps this season, most of them in the UK. His biggest effort all season was his 2nd place finish to Side Glance in the G3 Sovereign Stakes Salisbury. Frankly, Dance and Dance just isn't a G1 level turf miler. Should both of them run anywhere near their official marks? I think the Shadwell Turf Mile ultimately comes down to a 2-horse between Gio Ponti and Zoffany. TJMO.

Wise Dan Has Strong Shadwell Turf Drill
At this time last year, Wise Dan made a splash in the sprint ranks with a sharp victory in the Phoenix (G3) at Keeneland. Fast forward to the present and it is on the turf where Wise Dan is turning heads. On Monday morning, Wise Dan worked a half-mile in :46.20 around the “dogs” over a firm t...
