  • 12 Clip · The Factor is a horse that just keeps getting better. What was impressive in the Rebel was how The Factor, was able to control the race without expending any energy. For a horse who usually runs his second quarter in 43.0 and change sprinting, he was able to harness his speed beautifully going a route of ground for his first time and running a second quarter split in 46.0 and change. After he drew from the rest of the field to win by six, it looked like there was still plenty left in the tank. The Factor is both a speedball and a major contender. His jockey Martin Garcia has the right set of hands for this horse, and I believe he can travel the 1 1/4 mile distance of the Kentucky Derby. First he'll have to beat off rivals in either the Arkansas Derby or The Santa Anita Derby before we start talking Kentucky. Although it's looking like Arkansas right now, I wouldn't be surprised if Baffert changes his mind and runs him in the Santa Anita Derby. I think for a horse like The Factor, four weeks off before the Derby rather than three would be more beneficial for him. This horse has a brilliant mind, and has figured the game out. It'll be interesting to see how Baffert plays this ones hand. · 814 days ago ·

  • Machen · GOld write up I thought the fg track played a little tiring. No speed horses won all day. Grand lioness and d moment both stopped. Z humor completely stopped. The last race was won by a last to first move going awa by three lengts · 847 days ago ·

  • mshutty · The value of analyzing these prep races both before and after they are run can pay dividends. Here's the comment on Premier Pegasus after the San Vicente "Premier Pegasus ran a deceivingly good race in that he was involved in the early fray (hot early fractions), appeared finished but dug in gamely to hold third. One to watch as they stretch out next out (in the San Felipe)." · 829 days ago ·

Noting the tendency for frontrunners to stick around until the end at Sunland Park, Bob Baffert has selected the $800,000 Sunland Derby as The Factor’s next likely race. The nine furlong affair is a Grade 3, so the winner will earn more than enough money to punch his ticket for the Kentucky Derby. M...Read More

  • medomoreno · @RachelLover Sidney's Candy set the 5-1/2 F mark at DelMar as a 2yo; The Factor set the 6F mark at SA (1:06.98!) as a 2yo. Definite similarities. Both The Factor & Sway Away were great in the San Vicente & Derby day's a long way off: more than 2 months!!! · 845 days ago ·

  • footlick · You would have expected Sway Away to run past The Factor on the gallop out, but didn't happen. The Factor actually rebroke. That's why Baffert expects him to be able to stretch to at least 8.5 furlongs. Could have just folded up like the other pace horse, but kept going. Have to give him credit. If the race was longer, I don't think the fractions woud have been that taxing and that would have changed the whole complexity of the race · 848 days ago ·
