What the Nation is saying about the 2011 San Fernando (G2)...

Karl Watson, Mike Pegram and Paul Weitman's INDIAN FIREWATER (Indian Charlie), best of the rest behind Sidney's Candy (Candy Ride [Arg]) in the December 26 Sir Beaufort S. (G3), capitalized on the scratch of that formidable rival to wire Saturday's $150,000 San Fernando S. (G2) at Santa Anita. With ...Read More
Saturday’s pick six from Santa Anita Park includes a pair of Stakes races. First up is the Grade 2 Santa Ynez (6th race) and it looks like a match race between Zazu and Plum Pretty. Sidney’s Candy is out of the Grade 2 San Fernando (8th race) and Thiskyhasnolimit will likely inherit the role of favo...Read More

I really don’t understand why Sidney’s Candy isn’t getting more respect on a national level. Yes, I know people rate him as dangerous speed and a very good horse, but outside of California, it seems many don’t give him his due. Maybe it is because he was off the board in his two biggest races, the K...Read More

  • zatt · Sorry, three sprint wins against ... *crickets* ... does not carry more weight than a horse who won five graded stakes on three different surfaces. P.S. - Some of the greatest horses I have ever seen needed the lead. As far as Twirling Candy, you are right, he is very good. It's possible that 2nd best in the barn is 2nd best older horse out there this year. · 502 days ago ·

Grade 1 winner SIDNEY'S CANDY (Candy Ride [Arg]) will seek his second stakes victory of the Santa Anita meet when he lines up for the $150,000 San Fernando S. (G2), and the John Sadler-trained colt will be the one to catch among nine four-year-old rivals in the 1 1/16-mile event. The chestnut exits ...Read More

  • humphrey · I strongly get the impression that this one could NOT win on the deeper grass surfaces which make up the majority of turf courses throughout the country. When you are running on a putting green with no moisture of springiness to it, you are essentially (as the Brits call it) running on the top of the ground....Take this one to Woodbine Arlington or Saratoga and he would likely be a regular also ran. · 501 days ago ·
