I almost felt sorry for Cityscape. As three horses joined the battle outside the furlong marker, it was him that I knew did not belong. He's a nice horse, the five-year-old stakes winning son of Selkirk, but I mean come on. Talk about finding your way into a gunfight armed only with a switchblade. F...Read More

  • medlocke · I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say that we witnessed a changing of the guard at Royal-Ascot at the end of this year's Queen Anne Stakes? But I would go so far as to say that Goldikova has finally met in Canford Cliffs a turf miler who's turn of foot is every bit equal, if not quicker than Goldikova's. It's no accident that Canford Cliffs has now won 5 straight major G1's over a mile on the turf in Europe. All last season, Canford Cliffs trainer, Richard Hannon, kept running Paco Boy and Dick Turpin at Goldikova, and she always proved to be a half length to a length better than both every time. That's just no longer the case with her facing Canford Cliffs, IMO. Canford Cliffs is a very legitimate threat to dethroning Goldikova in her bid to win a 4th B.C. Mile. TJMO. · 704 days ago ·

  • Rossington · I don't believe very many people saw past the "big 2", Canford Cliffs and Goldikova, finishing 1-2 in this race, one way or another? But I would imagine that trainer Roger Charlton and Prince Khalid Abdullah would have to be ecstatic about the way that Cityscape ran in this race. He really laid down a late challenge, and briefly looked like he might really hit the wire with Canford Cliffs and Goldikova. But it was still a career best for Cityscape. Beaten 1-3/4 lengths by Canford Cliffs, and 1 length by Goldikova. Cityscape ended the 2010 season with win's in the listed Superior Mile at Haydock, and the G3 Joel Stakes at Newmarket. Then made his seasonal debut at Sandown, where he was beaten by 2-1/4 lengths by Dick Turpin in the G2 Bet365 Mile. Most people had Cityscape figured to finish behind Cape Blanco, Rio De La Plata, and some figured even behind Ransom Note also. I think this race will give Cityscape a huge dose of confidence, and I don't doubt Charlton looking for a strong G2 or another G1 over a mile for Cityscape to contest in the very near future!! CAPE BLANCO could clash with top milers Goldikova and Canford Cliffs in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot according to trainer Aidan O'Brien. The four-year-old, a major share in which was purchased by Dr Jim and Fitri Hay earlier in the year, won the Irish Derby and Irish Champion Stakes last seas...Read More
  • medlocke · I know that Ballydoyle has a ton of middle distance talent in the barn for the 2011 season. The likes of So You Think, St Nicholas Abbey, Cape Blanco, Await The Dawn, Fame and Glory, and Jan Vermeer. And that's just their older horses. I'm sure it's hard to find black type, G1 stakes races for all of them, and keep them separated from racing each other along the way? But I wonder if Aidan O'Brien isn't treating Cape Blanco almost as an afterthought? Because I'm not sure what this horse has ever done to warrant being thrown into the Queen Anne Stakes field against Goldikova and Canford Cliffs both, over a mile? He won the G2 Dante Stakes and G1 Irish Champion Stakes over 10f for Ballydoyle in 2010. He also won the G1 Irish Derby, and ran 2nd in the G1 King George over 12f for Ballydoyle in 2010. Cape Blanco's obviously a much better middle distance horse, and he get's rewarded by having to face Goldikova and Canford Cliffs at Ascot over a mile? Come on Aidan O'Brien?? Cape Blanco deserves more respect than that? It looks almost like you're just throwing him to the wolves here, because you can't figure out what middle distance G1 race to send him to? IMO. · 711 days ago ·
