  • mkstorm · Shack seems to run well at Churchill, but he has won only one race beyond a mile. He'll probably face stiffer competition in the Cigar Mile, but he's never ducked competition before. So I think he should try the Cigar Mile. He'd love to see him win his last race. · 514 days ago ·

  • shadowno · Unless Stay Thirsty pops and wins the BCC this should be a no brainer for Animal Kingdom. He won the race they all wanted to win, ran a big Preakness and was injured likely during the running of the Belmont. Even with a BCC win it doesn't get any bigger than Kentucky Derby. · 918 days ago ·

  • RaTalk_Girl · shadowno, interesting thoughts. I cannot disagree that every 3 year old wants that Derby win, but is it really enough. I do think that your argument about his Preakness run could change my mind. He looked great in the Derby and I do not think the way he ran in the Preakness is second to anyone. It will be interesting to see what the rest of the season brings. · 918 days ago ·

If there is one horse to watch from yesterday, it's JJ's Unlucky Train. He got caught wide and had a bunch of trouble in the Haskell. Look out for him next time.
  • ajump08 · He'll have to shorten up though, simply can't get the distance. · 989 days ago ·

  • GypsyRose · Correct he did win. I was just pondering the thought, calm down. One race doesn't make him a monster either. But yeah, I thought it was a huge effort and a good win, especially after that start! · 989 days ago ·

  • cleclair1994 · i meant his performace was monsterous. but i guarantee at the end of the year he will be top 3 year old. shackleford cant get 1 1/4 miles. animal kingdom is hurt so he cant be champ 3 yr old. hopefully coil will come to the travers and if he does he will beat stay thirsty and will prove he is best. baffert knows when he has a good horse. he gets him to close. something pletcher doesnt know how to do with a good horse. he lost any confidence with me in good horses last year in how he handled quality road. · 989 days ago ·

who ever will win, it must be class horse,
it is really hard for decision to pick up the Haskell winner, there are so many factor is involved, Shackleford now is not sharp as used to be in kentucky derby and preakness, so i am not sure whether he can perform like before, that's why bookies are given 5/2 odds, i do'nt think that if he has a chance to win the Haskell , his price will be 1-1/4.
but i still think that Pants on Fire or Ruler on Ice have a great chance to win the Haskell if Shackleford become tired after fighting for the lead either with Coli or Pantas on fire, just like to day in Jim Dandy the fight between Dominus and Will's Wildcat for the lead, it gave fullest advantages to Stay Thirsty and Moonshine Mullin.
it will be very interesting to see the Haskell run, three horses Shackleford, coil and pantas on fire will be the the 3 leadres at thye same time, it will reduce the chance of winning Haskell both of the 3 horses, wtey will be fightng stage and two other horses Ruler on Ice and Astrology will fluke through them. it is very difficult to oin point the winner in these circumstances.

  • AndyScoggin · Shackleford looked awesome when he schooled in the paddock today. He was on the muscle and showing off to crowd. Brad Thomas seems to be picking JJ's Lucky Train. I think Coil will run big. Stay Thirsty made Ruler on Ice look better, but down goes his odds even more. Pants On Fire??? I guess I sound as undecided as ever. Great field, though! I am going to the barns early Sunday, maybe that will help me choose! · 990 days ago ·

although i selected Shackleford, but after seeing Belmont Stakes repeayedly, i have now 30% reservations for Ruler on ice, if he follows the shackleford like he did in the belmont stakes, he has a pretty good chance to defeat Shackleford, his pedigree is superb Roman Ruler out of Fuschicas Pegasgus, very strong sire far better that Foresters.
