Zipse’s Kentucky Derby Daily – Day 19 Pedigree Spotlight written by Scott Dick In honor of the beautiful ladies in the sport of horse racing, I will be changing gears this week by turning my attention to a couple of the best 3-year-old fillies in the nation and two of the most likely winners of this...Read More

The 137th Kentucky Oaks on May 6th is stacking up to be one of the deepest and most diverse fields in history. Of the nine fillies on today’s list six are graded stakes winners, three have posted consecutive wins, 7 have never finished off the board in their last three starts and one is undefeated. ...Read More

  • KyOaksRunner · It's always hard determing if a horse will get 10 furlongs but as far as preps go this year the fillies have been far more impressive than the males aside from The Factor and Premier Pegasus. It would be interesting to see some match ups later in the year. · 419 days ago ·

  • RaTalk_Girl · I love that you are keeping Kathmanblu on the top of the list. I really like this filly. It has been no secret that I think Julien Leparoux will have a great Oaks/Derby weekend. · 418 days ago ·

It’s hard to say who was the most impressive sophomore runner this weekend with Dialed In’s awe-inspiring last-to-first Florida Derby win being so overpowering, but I belive there was one other 3-year-old graded stakes race that can give Dialed In a run for his money. Whoever said that lightning doe...Read More
  • MaryPetrecz · Your first and opening paragraph was brilliant. Your description of John riding RHL was spot on and I felt like I went along for the ride. RHL is an amazing gilrl and I can't wait to see Kathmanblu again to size these two fillies up before the Oaks. · 420 days ago ·

  • KyOaksRunner · Thanks Mary! I'm eager to see how Kathmanblu fare's this weekend in the Ashland against Dancinginherdreams, Wyomia and Delightful Mary. How that race is run will certainly determine who is number one over the next couple of weeks. · 420 days ago ·

In a virtual replay of the Davona Dale, R Heat Lightning rolled to a facile victory in Saturday’s Gulfstream Oaks. Content to sit in 4th under John Velazquez, R Heat Lightning stalked fractions of :23.06, :46.32, and 1:10.97. She crept closer on the outside and was in total command after a mile in ...Read More

The Gulfstream Oaks has come up with a diverse field of 7 three-year-old fillies set to contest the $300,000 race. Run in previous years as the Bonnie Miss Stakes the Grade 2 event is led by the Todd Pletcher trained R Heat Lightning, impressive winner of the Davona Dale Stakes last out, and the und...Read More

mike Im going with Triune to try and make you look silly
R Heat Lightning figures to be a short price when she takes on six rivals in Saturday's Grade 2 Gulfstream Oaks. The Todd Pletcher trainee is by far the most accomplished runner in the field. After breaking her maiden in her Delaware Park debut last summer, the daughter of Trippi ran 2nd in the Coll...Read More
Summer Soiree and Plum Pretty won by explosive margins over the weekend in key Kentucky Oaks preps but there was one other race that may have produced a serious Kentucky Oaks contender. Arienza is beyond a doubt the most royally bred 3-year-old filly in the nation as the daughter of 2002 American Ho...Read More

This past weekend offered little in the way of Kentucky Oaks prep action as only two major stakes races were run for 3-year-old fillies but one of the two could be a prelude of better things to come. The Santa Paula Stakes and Cicada Stakes didn’t feature much in the way of proven quality fillies bu...Read More
  • zatt · Thanks for bringing attention to the ridiculous current rating of Inglorious (and Joyful Victory as well.) They both deserve to be up near the top as you have them. Mildly Offensive is impressive, but both were wet track sprints, so I am in the wait and see mode with her. · 434 days ago ·

  • KyOaksRunner · I was shocked she was so low and aside from the top 5 or so there are quite a few fillies underrated right now, like Pomeroy's Pistol at #48. I agree, Mildly Offensive was visually pretty striking with her move but I'm not convinced she will be able to get distance. She seemed extremely eager to get to the lead early. · 434 days ago ·

As far as racing attention goes this weekend, all the focus will be centered around a highly competitive running of the Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park and a rematch between Champion, Blind Luck, and her arch nemesis, Havre de Grace, in the Azeri Stakes (gr.3), also at Oaklawn Park this Saturday. While...Read More

  • KyOaksRunner · Glad to see we agree again! I think the only filly that has a chance to make any sort of impact in the Kentucky Oaks is California Nectar, and only as a "pacemaker" not a serious contender.. · 437 days ago ·

  • zatt · Kathmanblu remains my top choice ... I was surprised to see she is 12-1 on the Oaks Pool ML. I am not sure who I like 2nd best between Dancing, Zazu and Tricky, my guess is Dancing but I will have to see how she rebounds from a dull performance in the Davona Dale. I do not think R Heat wants 9 furlongs at Churchill. I already placed a future bet on Inglorious for the Queen's Plate :) · 446 days ago ·

  • KyOaksRunner · I was very sursprised her odds were so high as well, I can't figure how they placed her behind R Heat Lightning, Dacninginherdreams and Zazu, it's pretty clear she's the leader of the division right now. Dancinginherdreams is definitely me second choice for the Oaks right now, I think she could end up beind better than Kathmanblu. Unfortunately I felt she should be dropped a spot because Zazu has been running so well and her last race she appeared to flatten out in the stretch. I'm hoping Inglorious heads for the Oaks, it would make for an exceptionally strong field if the majority of these fillies wind up in the gate. · 446 days ago ·
