What the Nation is saying about the 2011 Gotham (G3)...

He can beat two Triple Crown race winners and the Haskell winner in one race. He can beat the horse that went on to win the Wood Memorial. He can beat the winner of the Dwyer Stakes. Stay Thirsty is not the Rodney Dangerfield of the Pletcher barn, he is the Rodney Dangerfield of racing. Read More

  • DeadHeat · Winplacsho, I have to disagree. The Travers has more prestige and hold more value in the year end votes than either the Preakness or the Belmont. People favor it because it's Classic distance of 10f, a distance Shackleford never won at. Also, while Shackleford is a gutsy and admirable horse, he did not "take his show on the road." He has two wins this year, on in allowance company, the other in the Preakness, and he never could return to that winning form. He was well beaten in his last three races, as he was in the FOY, The Derby, and Belmont. He was at every dance, but like First Dude last year, there are two many beats to be a champion. Caleb excelled mainly at Saratoga, however his big win at Churchill demonstrates he is probably not just a Saratoga freak. Based on merits, it's Caleb's award. However, if the stigma comes out, and he should not receive the award, Stay Thirst did the most of the Classic runners. · 160 days ago ·

  • DeadHeat · Thirst has had the talent all along and had very good reasons for his subpar performances. As I said, being by Bernardini, who is by AP Indy I would expect him to get better as the year goes on and as the distances stretch. Now it is time to see what goes on in the Haskell. IMO the only horse that can win there and be of a threat to him in the Travers would be Ruler on Ice. · 303 days ago ·

There's an interesting pattern involving the Gotham and Triple Crown Stakes. A Gotham winner has been victorious in a Classic race once every eleven years. Does Stay Thirsty have what it takes to keep the trend alive?Read More

The champion jockey, after posing for his latest in a very long line of Aqueduct winner’s circle shots, made a dash for the jockeys’ room. Ramon Dominguez had another race to ride, after all. • mdracing69 · I am not sure how good Stay Thirsty is but this was a perfect prep. Stalk, pounce, finish strong and gallop out well. He was my top ranked colt when I posted my first Derby Top 10 last Sept. He was not fully cranked but was fit enough to get the job done and should run even better next time. This is exactly what To Honor And Serve should have done in the FOY. · 450 days ago ·

  • ArturoLaguna · Just curious what equine/handicapping credentials Mr. dubby30 possess to question the training methods of Bob Baffert . With 3 Kentucky Derby wins to his name and several other winners in the other legs of the triple, Baffert's training modus operandi seem to work. As Steve Haskins of The Bloodhorse wrote: "Leave the training to the trainers" · 454 days ago ·

  • 12 Clip · Astrology runs like a plodder. I don't even think he's worth talking about at the present moment. I don't think there is anybody in Steve Asmussen's stable that will be good enough to even make the Derby this season. Steve is a great trainer, and his horses are still getting used to their environment in So. Cal. As for Bob Baffert, it's a known fact that he likes to get the most out of his horses in the morning. Whether that's a waste of a horse is obviously up for debate. It's hard to knock Bafferts production in the 3-year-old series over the past two decades. · 454 days ago ·
