A year after the Life At Ten Fiasco, the Churchill Downs stewards, more so than anyone else, needed a good couple of days at the Breeders' Cup to redeem themselves and to restore the public's confidence in them. It didn't happen. The one time they were called upon to make a decision they got the cal...Read More

  • dsparrowd · Last Year on the Friday I had the triactor until the stewards took my horse down. I believe it was the ist time for that. How would you feel if your had Court Vision,Turallure, Gio Ponte & Mr.Commons in a tri box or heavens forbid in a super box. From what I saw Goldikova should have been taken down and put behind Courageous Cat who she obviously interfered with and finished last. With the 7-5 favorite out of the picture just try to imagine what the tri would have paid? how much for the super? Are we talking $ 500,000. Its absolutely criminal that this horse was not placed last. Thank God I didn't have the ticket I just mentioned above. The stewards should be fired! · 202 days ago ·

  • GypsyRose · Ok so I have a question about this. When I originally saw the race and she made that move I immediately thought oh yes she has to be taken down. I was sad cause on her last race that's not a way you want this fabulous horse to go out. But my question is, it looked like Courageous Cat was fading out of contention, does anyone think that has anything to do with the call? Because it wouldn't have made a difference because he was fading and wasn't going to win? I'm just asking, I'm not a genius at this horse racing stuff :) I'm just glad everyone emerged okay and unharmed. · 198 days ago ·

  • DeadHeat · Craig, Poly is far from what I call a neutral surface. I don't typically see a dirt horse relishing that type of surface. The Cushion is the most dirt like of all the syns and that is the on he ran on. Poly is quirky, even some turf horses have trouble with that surface. However, he did beat a very game multi surface threat in Candy. · 201 days ago ·

  • Cigar16 · The debacle that occured on Thursday from the fallout of CD's decision to not open the turf course for training has become a situation that I now find to be just as humorous (somebody please take Michael Stoute's deplorable trackside rant and make a comical YouTube video of it!) as it is shameful! Shameful for both entities. Despite CD's effort to make trainers aware by broadcasting on several occasions via the PA system the possibility of grass course training closure due to a threat of precipitation, a mess still ensued. WHY, did CD close the course a nanosecond before the scheduled opening? HELLO? I get that it was for legit reasons, but making that decision without facilitating your freaking public/horsemen relations department etc in preemptive coordination with the Euro's was appalling. This is not a normal event. Sorry, but CD definitely dropped that ball! But on the flip side is who the hell does John Gosden, and the most obnoxious, self entitled jackass Michael Stoute think they are in that they feel they can remedy their inconvenience by doing as they please in disregarding the closure, attempting to DISMANTLE the railing, and helping themselves to the course as if they were at home and having a backyard BBQ??? OMG! I was embarrassed for them! We can only hope that this will be at the very least a learning experience for the future.. All of that being said, and being one of the last people to look the other way as protocol is not adhered to, I do not speak lightly when I say that in the grand scheme of things, 10, 20, or a 100 years from now as an American racing fan I DO NOT WANT the unpleasant stigma that would have been ours FOREVER had the stewards DQ'ed Goldikova to LAST, therefore forever tarnishing her image. I am so glad the stewards proved diplomatic, thought of the consequences, and made the RIGHT DECISION! · 204 days ago ·

  • Cigar16 · All fans should go to a live Breeders Cup at least once. But even with stars in my eyes I can see travel_vic's point. Watching at home you do get to see all of it, at the track, even with a good seat it has its drawbacks. I have gone to several, and do not regret the hassles etc. But watching at home you have the best seat in the house. At home there are no dirty bathrooms, parking issues, crammed bleacher seating, (shame on GP in 99, I was a sanctioned sardine) long lines at the windows, jammed self service machines, lines at concessions, backups at valet parking, you name it! Only problem is if there is a late scratch you cannot cancel your tickets. :) · 209 days ago ·

I'm rooting very much for Goldikova and her 4th straight victory. My fingers are going to be crossed all day on Saturday for Goldikova and Havre de Grace! Oh, and Creative Cause!
Interesting to note that on Bodog futures it has Gio Ponti at 9-1, not sure what it means but its tremendous value if you like Gio
I think there are a number of runners in this race who could win it. I had to scale it down to five, and here they are: Turallure, Byword, Courageous Cat, Mr. Commons, Goldikova. My top selection will be Turallure in this race. Mr.Commons has nice long-shot appeal and will definitely be involved in some saver tags.

  • buds · What a great, no GREAT horse. This horse may have lost a step, maybe not. He still looks really good. He is the only horse in the breeders cup that could get in the money in both the classic and the mile. Im not sure that if he didnt train for the classic that this turf horse couldn't win the classic. If uncle mo can get the distance, this might be the next best horse in the BCC. I think he has a good shot at Goldakova, she is and should be the favorite, but GP is one of about or 4 that could upset her. What a great way to end his carreer, Gio Ponte, good luck and thanks for the lifetime of great races;-) · 212 days ago ·
