What the Nation is saying about the 2011 Ashland Stakes (G1)...

The Winterbook favorite for the Queen's Plate, Inglorious puts her undefeated Woodbine record on the line in the 1 1/8-mile Woodbine Oaks.Read More
  • zatt · I have been a big fan since Inglorious broke her maiden in a stakes race last fall, and I like her chances in the Woodbine Oaks tomorrow, but I must admit, it came up tough. Obviously Bear It's Time and Roxy Gap are strong fillies, but Marketing Mix looks especially intriguing to me. · 715 days ago ·

Just two weeks and four short days remain until the running of the 137th Kentucky Oaks on Friday May 6th at Churchill Downs. In stark contrast to the current disarray that the three-year-old male division finds itself in with heavy Derby favorites falling by the way side left and right, the three-ye...Read More
  • BrianZipse · I can't argue with your rankings, Brian, but I am leaning to a Kathmanblu, Zazu, and Wyomia box for my play ... I have a feeling that this year's Oaks will be won from well off the pace. · 761 days ago ·

  • 12thCrown · Joyful looked dominant at OP, which has been the key prep as of late. But I will be pulling for Khatmanblu as well! · 749 days ago ·

The Wood Memorial may have been the most shocking upset of the season but Lilacs and Lace did her best to steal the spotlight this weekend with a 48-1 upset in the Ashland Stakes (gr.1) at Keeneland on Saturday. In a field that included heavy favorite Kathmanblu as well as multiple graded stakes win...Read More

  • LDP19 · Kath does not impress me on dirt/syns as much as she does turf. Though most versitile turf runners, ie. Einstein tend to transfer well to CD dirt couse well. I have no idea what happened to Dreams. Maybe she is a CD lover??? I know she won at Keenleland, but that was a maiden and not a grade one. If she goes to the Oaks she'll be, IMO a bit of a wild card. Will she return to her dominating form that she showed over that track or will she not be able to step up again. R Heat has a big performance over the track, only Awesome Feather -unbeaten in 6- wore her down. She can lead or close -Spinaway.- and she has been the most dominant up to this point. Joyful Victory has Larry Jones which scares me because that man can tain like no other. Hard Spun and Proud Spell are proof of that. · 769 days ago ·

Lightly-regarded Lilacs and Lace shocked many in the crowd of 23,155 racing fans who turned out to watch the $400,000 Central Bank Ashland Stakes (gr. I) at Keeneland April 9. The 48-1 longshot defeated Wyomia by a length while favored Kathmanblu finished third at the Central Kentucky track.Accordin...Read More

The 137th Kentucky Oaks on May 6th is stacking up to be one of the deepest and most diverse fields in history. Of the nine fillies on today’s list six are graded stakes winners, three have posted consecutive wins, 7 have never finished off the board in their last three starts and one is undefeated. ...Read More

  • KyOaksRunner · It's always hard determing if a horse will get 10 furlongs but as far as preps go this year the fillies have been far more impressive than the males aside from The Factor and Premier Pegasus. It would be interesting to see some match ups later in the year. · 774 days ago ·

This past weekend offered little in the way of Kentucky Oaks prep action as only two major stakes races were run for 3-year-old fillies but one of the two could be a prelude of better things to come. The Santa Paula Stakes and Cicada Stakes didn’t feature much in the way of proven quality fillies bu...Read More
  • zatt · Thanks for bringing attention to the ridiculous current rating of Inglorious (and Joyful Victory as well.) They both deserve to be up near the top as you have them. Mildly Offensive is impressive, but both were wet track sprints, so I am in the wait and see mode with her. · 789 days ago ·

  • KyOaksRunner · I was shocked she was so low and aside from the top 5 or so there are quite a few fillies underrated right now, like Pomeroy's Pistol at #48. I agree, Mildly Offensive was visually pretty striking with her move but I'm not convinced she will be able to get distance. She seemed extremely eager to get to the lead early. · 789 days ago ·
