What the Nation is saying about the 2010 Robert B. Lewis Stakes (G2)...

I might be flat wrong about Tiz Chrome, a stone bet-against Saturday in the Grade 2 Robert B. Lewis. It seems strange to bet against a horse with as many positive attributes as Tiz Chrome. Tiz Chrome is fast, unbeaten and bred long. He won an allowance-caliber sprint last time with a 97 Beyer, he is...Read More
Rule was assigned a preliminary Beyer figure of 98 for his win in the G3-Sam F. Davis at Tampa Bay Downs yesterday.  The Todd Pletcher trainee was able to control the pace, put away his rivals at the top of the stretch, and run the final 3/16 of a mile in 31.79 to draw off to win by three lengt...Read More

For the connections of five classic hopefuls, it is better late than never. A week after torrential rains at Santa Anita Park forced a cancellation of the Robert B. Lewis Stakes (G2) and the rest of the February 5 card, the $150,000 race will be run today, minus two of the original entrants. Althoug...Read More
Maybe it was the relatively modest California breeding or the obscure jockey that dimmed the perfect record going into Saturday’s Grade II, $150,000 Robert. B. Lewis Stakes for 3-year-olds at Santa Anita, but Caracortado emerged as a bona fide Kentucky Derby prospect after knocking off such consensu...Read More
Saturday’s pick six from Santa Anita Park includes three graded events. American Lion looms the one to beat in the rescheduled Robert Lewis, and Misremembered is the marquee name in the Strub. Santa Anita Park will try again on Saturday with a five-horse field for the $150,000 Robert B. Lewis Stakes (G2), delayed a week by the cancellation of the February 6 card because of drainage problems. Two horses, Domonation and Macias, defected from the original field. Domonation is headed to ...Read More

AMERICAN LION (Tiznow) will make his two-turn debut Saturday while taking on six rivals in the $150,000 Robert B. Lewis S. (G2) at Santa Anita. The 1 1/16-mile event is a major prep for the $750,000 Santa Anita Derby (G1) on April 3. American Lion ran second in his debut for trainer Richard Budge be...Read More

Supposedly, Baffert is now looking at the Southwest for Tiz Chrome and Sadler is going as well with Domonation. That would make this race completely fall apart.
Following more than 24 hours of rain in the Southern California area, Santa Anita canceled its Feb. 6 card, which included three important graded stakes. The synthetic surface again failed to drain, causing the fourth cancellation during the current meet. Five stakes were scheduled for the card, two...Read More
Santa Anita was forced to cancel a lucrative 10-race program on Saturday after its Pro-Ride synthetic track failed to sufficiently drain following 3 1/2 inches of rain in a 24-hour period from early Friday into Saturday. Five stakes were scheduled, including the Grade 1 Las Virgenes Stakes for 3-yea...Read More

The Lewis sets up as one of the more definitive Derby preps this season. American Lion, Tiz Chrome are proven stakes winners going two turns for the first time, while Caracortado, a Cal stakes winner, takes on open company. Dave in Dixie and Hawaiian Springs also have plenty of potential. Should be a good one.
American Lion has become the forgotten 3-year-old in California. Staying away from the races for more than two months can do that for a colt's reputation in the instant gratification world of Kentucky Derby preps.Read More
