What the Nation is saying about the 2010 Metropolitan Hcp. (Met Mile) (G1)...

In a brilliant display of speed and talent, Quality Road staked his claim as the top horse in the country as he rocketed to a 1 ½-length victory over Musket Man Monday afternoon in the 117th running of the Grade 1, $500,000 Metropolitan Handicap at Belmont Park. Read More

  • cugel the clever · WRITING YOUR OPINION IN CAPITAL LETTERS DOES NOT MAKE IT A FACT. Naming the "Best Horse" always has been, and always will be, an OPINION, not a FACT. In my opinion, beating the best males in the world three times (instead of once), setting multiple track and stakes records (instead of none) and beating horses at 8 different tracks is a more worthy record than 16 in a row against Grade III competition. · 1075 days ago ·

What can anyone say about the performance we witnessed on Memorial Day at Belmont Park? Other than, it was other-worldly, I don't know. Quality Road absolutely toyed with the competition in the Grade 1 Met Mile on Monday and certainly looked like the best older male horse in the country in doing it....Read More
METROPOLITAN HANDICAP QUOTES   Todd Pletcher, winning trainer of favored Quality Road (No. 7): “It was very impressive, and watching him come back and seeing how he hardly took a deep breath, it’s unbelievable how talented he is, especially when you consider he was spotting the runner-up seven...Read More
If there’s an American graded stakes race that is more interesting year in and year out than the Met Mile then I’m unsure I’ve located such an affair.  Each year you get a terrific mixture of sprinters attempting to negotiate that important 8th furlong and routers cutting back to achieve glory ...Read More
In his first two starts as a 4-year-old, Quality Road quickly established himself as a powerhouse in the older male division, cruising to an easy win in the Grade 3 Hal’s Hope at Gulfstream Park and coming back to crush the competition by nearly 13 lengths in the Grade 1 Donn Handicap.Read More

If you were paying attention to racing 100 years ago this month, some things would look familiar: racing in New York shifted from Aqueduct to Belmont; the Metropolitan Handicap was run at Belmont Park; a former racehorse met a sad end in his post-racing life. (Quality Road will face seven others in ...Read More
The curious case of Quality Road continues Monday at Belmont Park in the Grade 1 Metropolitan Mile. This race won’t be nearly as easy for him as the Donn Handicap. Grade 1 winner Warrior’s Reward promises to bring PLENTY of competition as does Illinois Derby winner Musket Man...Read More

It is hard to believe that Quality Road has only made nine lifetime starts. This is a colt who has been making racing headlines from day one. Let’s take a quick look at a timeline of highlights: November 29,2008 - His racing debut results in one of the highest Beyers of any juvenile of 2008, as he e...Read More
  • medlocke · Right now, based on his last performance in the Donn Handicap, I'd say that Quality Road is the best older colt in America on conventional dirt. The only other colt who may have any kind of legitimate gripe at all about the subject is Blame. That's why I really hope we get to see these two hook up in a race on dirt sometime during the 2010 racing season. JMO. · 1092 days ago ·

Quality Road will have his final tune-up on Tuesday for Memorial Day’s Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap, and trainer Todd Pletcher could not be happier with the way the 4-year-old Elusive Quality colt is coming into the race.   “He’s doing great,” said Pletcher of Edward P. Evans’ homebred, who in...Read More
