  • DeadHeat · I agree about the dirt statement Stevebiscuit, but you never know until they run in a circle. Personally I've always been a fan of First Dude and felt he had this win coming, so i'm not upset by the finish in the least. All three performed like champs. · 680 days ago ·

  • 12 Clip · Good article Laura. The transformation of First Dude from a front-runner to a closer has been quite a transformation for the son of Stephen Got Even. His new style is so much better suited for his body-type. The Dude is a big colt that hits the ground hard. The way he closed in the Gold Cup reminded me of how Curlin use to grind them down. A winner of three in-a-row, it now seems like The Dude has no problem taking pictures in the winners circle. I think his style is perfect for Churchill Downs and the classic distance. And remember he was in the race last year as a three-year-old against one of the best fields ever assembled. This year I can visualize him getting a similar trip to the one Blame got in the Classic. There's still alot of racing til then, and Baffert needs to figure out what his next race will be. Although the Pacific Classic looks like the most likely spot. I'm not so sure if First Dude will be able to grip and dig as well on Del Mar's poly-track. He is 3 for 3 in the money lifetime on synthetic tracks, so with him I think the surface probably doesn't matter, but nonetheless it is Del Mar · 680 days ago ·

Lookin at Lucky moved to the head of the 3-year-old class at Monmouth Park Sunday as he dominated his rivals in the 43rd running of the $1 million Haskell.Read More
  • medlocke · Thank goodness for Lookin At Lucky. The one bright star in what I consider the worst year for 3yr.old colts that I can remember for eons. Lookin At Lucky clearly stamped himself as much the best among 3yr.old colts in yesterday's Haskell Invitational. Easily dispatching both the Kentucky and Florida Derby winners. I really believe had the track at Churchill Downs not looked like a lake on Derby day. Lookin At Lucky would've been this year's Kentucky Derby winner as well. He's the only 3yr.old that's remotely talented enough to go forward to this year's Breeders Cup Classic. And even Lucky's chances of winning the Classic are very, very slim. With the likes of Quality Road, Blame, and Zenyatta headed for Churchill Downs in November as well. JMO. · 1024 days ago ·

  • mshutty · Lookin At Lucky never makes it easy. In his work here at Del Mar on monday morning, things got a little intense for Bob Baffert. "Lucky" had to get out of the way of another work horse and then was going too fast for Baffert's liking. All ended well and he appears ready for the Haskell · 1029 days ago ·

  • cigar · Give me anyone but the early season 3-year-old's who were nothing special. Sure, they might end-up best of the crop, but the group is RIPE for an up-and-comer. Perhaps this horse isn't in this particular race, we'll see... either way, I'll take my chances the division leader has yet to be seen on the big stage. · 1029 days ago ·
