I think Turkey's Pan River had a great overall Carnival. Campanologist looke better in this race than any he's been in for awhile. Golden Sword and Frozen Fire are both tough to figure out? Both having had success in Ireland and the UK, but struggled in Dubai. With Frozen Fire having won the 08' Irish Derby, but hasn't won since. Golden Sword won the 09' Chester Vase, but has had some other nice effort's in the UK as well.
This was a very nice effort in this race for Campanologist. He had been racing pretty effectively in 2009, but had only managed to come away with one victory in four different Group 3 races. Campanologist ran 2nd to Jukebox Jury in August in the 09' Rose of Lancaster Stakes. Then, in August, went to Windsor, where he ran a very good race in beating Bankable in the Group 3 Winter Hill Stakes. His next two races came in September. First, he ran 3rd to Dr. Freemantle and the filly Look Here in the Group 3 Dubai Duty Free Arc Trial at Newbury. Then followed that up with a 2nd place effort in the Group 3 Cumberland Lodge Stakes at Ascot, beaten by Mawatheeq. He finished far back in the field in October's running of the Group 1 09' Emirates Airline Champion Stakes. But for Campanologist to jump up to Group 2 level, and hold off a very good horse in Pan River to win the City Of Gold, show's a lot of improvement in this colt. IMO.
