Sunday’s pick six from Del Mar includes the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes for 2-year-olds traveling six one one-half furlongs on Polytrack. J P’s Gusto is the 2-1 morning line favorite but is stuck down on the rail and will not offer much value. Western Mood could be sitting on ready in his 3rd career sta...Read More
The Zenyatta camp held back from an all out commitment to run her in the G1 Clement L. Hirsch until she got a few "strolls around the Polytrack".  I was at the barn today and the report is all systems go!  The hesitation to commit stemmed from a concern about Zenyatta's affinity for the Po...Read More

  • cugel the clever · Z beats a bunch of nobodies by a short head in Standardbred time (1:45+ for 8 1/2 furlongs). What a farce. Most NW3/L have better fields than this. Will be interesting to see how honest is the Beyer figure for this race. No way it should be over 90. · 1348 days ago ·
  • sdnaples · Hey Cugel the Stupid.....Zenyatta let the speed horses run the 1/2 in 50 and then beat them down the stretch. · 1347 days ago ·
I hope Zenyatta stays unbeaten so bad!!!!!!! Del Mar's Racetrack is known for HUGE upsets!!! if she is truely God Sent she wont get beat.....Hopefully
Saturday’s pick six from Del Mar includes a carryover of more than $130,000 and features the Grade 1 Clement L Hirsch Stakes for fillies and mares traveling a mile and a sixteenth on Polytrack. Undefeated mare Zenyatta shoots for her 18th win from as many starts. For the record, she is 2-for-2 at De...Read More

Hollywood Gold Cup winner Awesome Gem breezed for the first time Tuesday since his July 10 victory as he prepares for his fourth straight run at Del Mar's signature $1-million, Grade I Pacific Classic on Saturday, August 28.   The 7-year-old gelded son of Awesome Again turned 4 furlongs in 48.6...Read More
Zenyatta will go down in history among the greatest racehorses of all time. Unbeaten in 17 career starts, she'll try for win No. 18 on Saturday in the $300,000 Clement L. • cugel the clever · "an outcome that has been called the best Breeders' Cup race ever, as well as one of the greatest performances in the history of the sport." Z is a great horse, but this kind of over the top hyperbole is absurd. Z's win over a mediocre field of males was NOT one of the best Breeder's Cup races ever and certainly NOT one of the greatest sports performances. I could cherry-pick many better Breeder's Cup races, but Awesome Again's victory in 1998 against probably the best Classic field ever assembled (Skip Away, Silver Charm, Swain, Victory Gallop, Coronado's Quest, etc) was a far, far better race against far superior competition. http://www.breederscup.com/greatestmoments.aspx?year=1998&divisionname=classic · 1350 days ago ·

There's no point in arguing that Zenyatta should have come to Saratoga to meet Rachel Alexandra in the Personal Ensign and give everyone the race they are dying to see. It was never going to happen. You could put a gun to Jerry Moss's head and he still wouldn't take his mare out of California any ti...Read More
Though run down by Zenyatta in Santa Anita's Grade I Santa Margarita Handicap in March, the appropriately named Dance to My Tune provided quite a challenge for the two-time champion older female's surging late-run style.   Dan Ward, assistant to trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, thinks the front-run...Read More

The Polytrack problems that surfaced early Thursday at Del Mar could hurt the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club’s chances of getting undefeated and two-time Eclipse Award winner Zenyatta to race here Aug. 7. Sunday evening, several hours after Zenyatta caught a game St Trinians in deep stretch of the $250,000 Vanity Handicap to extend her unbeaten streak to 17, trainer Mike Mitchell sent John Shirreffs a text message.
