What the Nation is saying about the 2010 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1)...

Garrett Gomez is showing no lingering signs from his Thursday spill at Churchill Downs. He rode his third winner of the day on Friday when he guided More Than Real to an upset victory over Winter Memories in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. An objection lodged by the runner-up was not allowe...Read More
It's that time! Time to preview today's BC races plus my picks.Breeders' Cup Marathon (G3)Even though this is the lone male BC race on Friday, there is a filly in this race in Million Seller. However, I saw her get beat badly in the Del Cap this year. Bright Horizon has never run on dirt before, but...Read More
We all know who the favorites are and who the contenders are. But we also know that no Breeders' Cup is complete without its share of longshots. So here goes. Try these Friday longshots on for size. BREEDERS’ CUP MARATHON (G3) – 1 ¾ MILES Jamie Spencer has struggled mightily when riding in America, but Paul Cole has had success at the Breeders’ Cup before (second in the BC Classic in 1990) and the dirt breeding on #11 PRECISION BREAK indicates he should love getting this trip at Churchill. &nbs...Read More

Happy Breeders' Cup draw day! Before the draw, everyone is waiting to figure out how things will work out -- who's going to be where, how the races are going to shape up in terms of which horses will have to send and which horses will get to rate. Once it's over, of course, you have a clearer pictur...Read More
To trainer Jimmy Toner, Darby Dan Farm’s legacy has long been cemented in thoroughbred racing history.   “The whole farm is built on the foundation of these fillies they’ve had for generations,” said Toner. “You talk about Claiborne, the Phipps family, Juddmonte, and Darby Dan – they’re all par...Read More

Trainer Jimmy Toner glanced at his stopwatch after Winter Memories had concluded a five-furlong workout over Belmont Park's inner turf course Monday morning and was shocked at what it read: 58.50 seconds. Admitting that he can be a little quick on the trigger finger, Toner figured to hear a slower t...Read More
On Oct. 3, I was sitting at Belmont Park watching the Grade 3 Miss Grillo with a trainer who knows a thing or two about winners; he’s trained horses that have won all three legs of the Triple Crown and the Travers; he’s trained two Breeders’ Cup winners. And as he watched Winter Memories fly home to...Read More

You better ingest what follows quickly, because you can bet it’s going to change by the minute, as was the case with our rundown of the Nov. 6 races a...Read More
We’re less than three weeks away from the 27th Breeders’ Cup, contested over two days at Churchill Downs on November 5th and 6th.  Each week leading up to it I’ll run down my top 5 in each division, which will be updated based on defections and different choices made by connections.  Here’...Read More
When Winter Memories won the Grade 3 $150,000 Miss Grillo (G3) by 5 1/4 lengths on October 3 at Belmont Park, the powerful gray filly gave the impression she will be very hard to defeat this fall in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Filly Turf. At Darby Dan Farm, owner John Phillips and his staff felt more...Read More

  • 12 Clip · Sleeper, I think Rogue Romance has a very bright future. The son of Smarty Jones has an explosive kick much like his father. This horse has a lot of speed and if he goes in the Juvenile, I'm sure he'll be forwardly placed, and much closer to the pace, than he was in the Bourbon Stakes at Keeneland. I applaud McPeek's strategy to try the dirt. The horse is bred for it, and by the way he hits the ground, he should get faster over the dirt. · 592 days ago ·

Trainer Mark Frostad had a great quote about New Normal: “When she ran six lengths faster than the colts, that’s what really perked me up,” he told the DRF. “That certainly legitimizes her. They were three races apart, so I don’t think there was any difference in the surface.” New Normal got an 88 Beyer figure for the Natalma, while Winter Memories got an 80 for the Miss Grillo.
Pluck took the Summer Stakes and New Normal captured the Natalma at Woodbine while punching their tickets for the BC Juvenile Turf races. Read More
