What the Nation is saying about the 2009 Lady's Secret (G1)...

Champion older mare Zenyatta equaled Personal Ensign's mark of 13 wins without a loss when she won the Lady's Secret Stakes during the Oak Tree meet at Santa Anita.Read More
There is so much to discuss after the weekend's stakes extravaganza, but one race that likely had the most profound effect on the Breeders' Cup was the Goodwood Stakes (gr. I).Read More
  • Rossington · I say now or never for Zenyatta. If she had been entered in the Goodwood Stakes, Gitano Hernando or not, she could have won that race. There really wasn't much there to beat, imo. MTB who hasn't won a race since the Ky. Derby, Colonel John who runs well on the surface but is a bit overmatched in the Classic, Informed and Parading, whom neither have ran to par for some time now. So with Sea the Stars now retired, I say let Zenyatta run against the boys. Quality Road or Summer Bird are neither proven on the surface. Of the American entries, only Einstein may give her trouble. So let her run, so what if she finished 3rd to Rip Van Winkle and Midshipman. No shame in that. · 1645 days ago ·

It is a performance that trainer John Shirreffs and thousands of others never tire of watching - Zenyatta running through the stretch.Read More

  • dustino140 · It's a shame Zenyatta is campaigned by the people who have her right now. This is a mare that has deserved much better handling than she's received, and her legacy is going to suffer tenfold because of it. In decades, I think people will remember Rachel Alexandra - and it's amazing to consider that she's possibly not even the best female in racing right now. They've just never campaigned Zenyatta with any boldness (i.e. why wasn't she in the Goodwood instead of the Lady's Secret?), and her legacy is going to suffer because of that. A shame. · 1647 days ago ·

  • Medlocke · The front page says it all, "Zenyatta does it again!" Simple but effective. Remember that phrase, because she'll keep on doing it again and again as long as this big mare continues to race. She owns whatever racetrack she's on. I've been watching horse racing for a long time, and I don't think I've ever seen a horse lag at the back of a pack like she often does and then just gobble up so much ground in the stretch. She makes winning look easy. '' · 1647 days ago ·

If Rachael is "Alexandra the Great" for going 8-0 in a season, what, pray tell, do we call Zenyatta for going 13-0 in a career? Enough said?
Mike Smith never had her in much more than an exercise canter. She probably sweats more in her morning workouts. I also like the way he had her closer to the pace, what little pace there was, as to not ask her to make up so much and have another close one like in the Clement L. Hirsch. Zenyatta is truly a special mare. One of the best ever. Now the comparisons will start with Personal Ensign. And the Zenyatta-Rachael Alexandra question will always be there, unless it gets settled somwhere down the road. I know how great R.A. is. But I really do think if Zenyatta laid closer to the pace, like today, coming down the stretch Rachael would look up to see that big mare coming like a runaway locomotive and blow right on by her at the line. imo.
Saturday’s (Day 9) Pick 6 from Oak Tree @ Santa Anita includes a carryover of  more than $78k and features three graded races. Will 13 prove to be a lucky number for Zenyatta in the Lady’s Secret? Read More
Agree with medlocke. Horses just don't win 12 straight races coming from well off the pace, but Zenyatta is a special mare, and I also expect her to cruise past her foes in the '09 Lady's Secret.
I look for Zenyatta to bounce back big in the Lady's Secret. So she had 1 close call. This is not a mare that runs out on or right off of the lead, she routinely spots fields 10-15 lengths and then when called upon, gobbles up ground like a runaway locamotive. That impresses me more, coming from 15 off the lead and going right on by a field than running wire to wire. just my opinion.
That's a big IF...
I would just love nothing more for her to win the Lady;s Secret in grand fashion (liek she normally does) and then point to the BC classic and show those boys her class! That would be sooooooooo awesome if she won the Classic...Also...if she DOS win the Lady's Secret (surpassing Personal Ensign's record) Classic will that be enough to topple Rachel Alexandra or Summer Bird from HOY???

Does anyone find it interesting that despite her resume, the continue to line-up and face her? I think deep down horsemen knows she is.... vulnerable.
On Saturday, Zenyatta looks to extend her streak in the Lady's Secret, a race she won last year by more than three lengths. Despite her resume, they've lined-up against her, including Anabaa's Creation, whom Zenyatta almost lost to in August.Read More
