What the Nation is saying about the 2009 Hollywood Gold Cup (G1)...

After stalking the pace, Rail Trip (shown at Santa Anita) popped outside and wore down pace setting Tres Borrachos en route to a stunning victory in the Hollywood Gold Cup on Saturday. Life is Sweet, the filly, rallied to be third.Read More
  • GBeret · Rail Trip ran a very impressive race in the Hollywood Gold Cup. He ran one of those races where it just looked like no matter whom the competition was he just wasn't going to be beaten. I was, however, surprised that Garrett Gomez didn't have Life is Sweet a little more forwardly placed in the race and seemed to just let her dottle a bit at the back. I don't think she would have beaten Rail Trip on that day anyway, but if she were a little closer to the pace she may have gotten up for 2nd instead of barely coming home 3rd. · 1046 days ago ·

I'm kind of, sentimentally, rooting for Magnum in the Gold Cup. Please correct me if i'm wrong but I believe he's the old timer of the bunch that's entered. I've seen him run alot through the years and he's a hard horse to figure. He'll win races that you think he has no chance in and run poorly in races he should do well in. Anyway, I like the old timers, Magnum, Commentator, etc.
Synthetic surfaces aren't the best but this race would not have 13 in it on dirt... tough to argue with that.
Parading headed west earlier last month for a bid in Saturday's Hollywood Gold Cup. Fond of synthetic surfaces, Parading will face twelve other rivals including the filly Life Is Sweet. Earlier this year Parading won the Dixie at Pimlico, and the Ben Ali at Keeneland.Read More

Look for Dakota Phone to at least be in the money.

  • christiecat · Unlike Jackson, Shug likes the plastic. Shug's recent weekend trip to Arlington was very successful. Love the quote - “Getting back on the synthetic is the big thing, and running in a big race like the Hollywood Gold Cup will be fun.” It sure is nice to see a top trainer looking for some fun rather than the money! · 1067 days ago ·

Zenyatta is on-course for the Vanity against fillies and mares next weekend at Hollywood Park. Meanwhile Life is Sweet, who lost to Zenyatta last time, is headed to the more difficult Hollywood Gold Cup. What do you think of the decision?Read More

  • jblank001 · If Zenyatta runs like the last, she would not hit the ticket in the Gold Cup. They can try to get her in better shape, with a paid work out in the Milady. Life is Sweet will not hit the ticket, unless there are only 3 in the race. Zenyatta will retire before entering a race she might lose! Another black eye for horse racing. · 1071 days ago ·
