What the Nation is saying about the 2009 Clement L. Hirsch (G1)...

Larry Zap brings you a fans' eye view of the great race mare Zenyatta winning the 2009 Grade 1 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes at beautifull Del Mar Racetrack, her closest decision yet, by a nose over Anabaa's Creation and Lethal Heat.Read More
By the time Zenyatta appeared under an archway leading from the receiving barn to the paddock for Sunday's $300,000 Clement Hirsch Stakes, the crowd lining the walkway was three-deep. Read More
Despite her unblemished record, Zenyatta did not scare anybody away in Saturday's Clement Hirsch Stakes at Del Mar. Nine others will take-on the defending champion whose name has been a staple in recent debates and discussion about the race towards Horse of the Year.Read More

  • invasor · Couldn't agree more! Seems like Zenyatta has already produced her best races. Still solid and well managed but perhaps not an automatic as she was last year. Why else would 10 fillies and mares run with her today? · 1023 days ago ·

  • mdracing69 · Nine were entered to face Zenyatta, but a few defected as expected, including Patricia's Gem, Briecat, and Hot n' Dusty. Not much speed in there now. Champagne Eyes is the likely pacesetter. Anabaa's Creation will probably stalk, and Zenyatta will roll from the back like she always does. · 1023 days ago ·

The undefeated champion Zenyatta sent a clear message to any of her prospective foes in the $300,000 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes (gr. I) on Aug. 9 with a scintillating five-furlong breeze in 1 minute flat on Del Mar's main track Aug 2.Read More
Ten fillies and mares have been nominated for the Aug. 9 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes (gr. I), the anticipated next start for unbeaten Zenyatta.Read More
With Zenyatta's name already entered in the race, it's of little consequence who else may enter.
Jerry Moss, owner of undefeated champion Zenyatta, said July 22 that he has not made a decision on the mare's next destination after her try in the Aug. 9 Clement Hirsch Stakes (gr. I), but he reiterated that he still wants to do "something different" with the rest of her 2009 campaign.Read More
  • GBeret · Mr. Moss, if you're reading this, stick to your guns. You've got the best horse in America, male or female, bar none. Anyone that's ever seen her race should know that. Rachel Alexandra being ranked above Zenyatta in the NTRA polls is a joke. I agree 100% with what you said. "The Breeders Cup races were designed to settle issues just like this. If Zenyatta finishes the year undefeated, and I think she will, and loses HOY to Rachel Alexandra I'll quit watching horseracing. To be the best, you have to go to the Breeders Cup and beat the best. The track it's held at is just luck of the draw. Don't say I've got the best horse but I'm not running her on synthetic after the race that Rachel Alexandra put in at Keenland on synthetic. But you know the old saying, "is there really any difference between a reason and an excuse?" · 1040 days ago ·

The best race horse in America, bar none. This mare just has a drive and determination to run down and blow by any horses in front of her like no other horse I've ever seen in my lifetime. I don't care if Rachael Alexandra is out there, if they ever race my money is on Zenyatta. She's 5 now and still runs and acts like a 3 yr. old full of juice. I bet Rachael won't still be laying them to waist or even still racing when she's 5. And she certainly can't retire undefeated like I'll bet Zenyatta will.
