What the Nation is saying about the 2009 Breeders Cup Turf (G1)...

Conduit, what a great champion. Always gives 110% and is never an easy beat in any race that he's in. But now that Conduit has been retired and is to be sent to Japan to stand stud, I really hope that for the 2010 Breeders Cup Turf that Sir Michael Stoute brings Conduit's stablemate, Tartan Bearer over stateside for the race. Tartan Bearer is an unbelievable talent as well, who has just raced in the shadow of Conduit during his career. He really is a colt who's just a whisker from being as talented as Conduit. Beaten in 08' by a half-length in the Epsom Derby by New Approach. He won the 09' Gordon Richards Stakes after Pipedreamer stole the jump and looked as though he'd run off with the race only to have Tartan Bearer catch him and head him at the wire. Then he ran an awesome 09' Prince of Wales Stakes beaten a half-length by Vision D'Etat. And most recently, in the 09' King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, fighting out the stretch drive with stablemates Conduit and Ask. Beaten a little over a length by Conduit and finishing ahead of Ask. IMO, if Stoute brings Tartan Bearer over for the 2010 Breeders Cup Turf, he could potentially continue his domination of the race and make it 3 years in a row of winning it after Conduit winning in 08' and 09'. The first of eight Breeders’ Cup races on Saturday went to Pounced, who did just that in the Turf Sprint. Chalk up another win for the euros. Bridgetown set the pace and held the place by a head over Interactif. Frankie Dettori booted home the John Gosden trainee. Read More
It was great to see Conduit repeat... but Presious Passion was simply awesome... probably the second best performance of the day.
I didn't bet this race because I thought Conduit was to difficult to beat and too short of a price. I've never been a big Presious Passion fan because the race's he's lost has been because he ran himself out of the race, and you never know when he's going to do that. But I will give credit where it's due, when he started coming back to the trailer's, I thought he was cooked and the filly Dar Re Mi and Spanish Moon would go right on by him. But, to his credit, he showed a ton of heart in the race digging down and fighting Conduit all the way to the line. And Conduit is a great champion, so that was no easy task for Presious Passion given the early fraction's he set himself.
Day for overseas turf repeaters. First it was Goldikova, then Conduit did the deed in the BC Turf. Presious Passion brought his "A" game but was run down by a better horse. Conduit (1st) - $3.80, $3, $2.20 Presious Passion (2nd) - $5, $3.80 Dar Re Mi (3rd) - $3 Spanish Moon (4th) $1 Exacta - $12.80 $1 Trfiecta - $40.30 .10 cent Superfecta - $6.73

With only eight horses going postward in the Breeders' Cup Turf, the draw should have no effect whatsoever in the 1 1/2-mile contest, which starts halfway down Santa Anita's hillside course.
