What the Nation is saying about the 2009 Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1)...

This was one of the Breeders Cup races that I did nail. I had a $25.00 to win ticket on Informed Decision. She's rarely been beaten period, and had never been beaten over synthetic surfaces. I didn't see the Filly & Mare Sprint being her first defeat over the surface either. Not even with Ventura in the race. Frankly, Ventura hadn't looked as sharp to me in 2009 as she did in 2008, and she had already lost to Informed Decision earlier in the year.
Informed Decision sat the garden spot trip and got the jump on defending champ Ventura in the '09 Filly & Mare Sprint. Free Flying Soul set the pace and held the show. Informed Decision (1st) - $8.80, $3, $2.80 Ventura (2nd) - $2.60, $2.20 Free Flying Soul (3rd) - $7.40 Sara Louise (4th) $1 Exacta - $7.70 $1 Trifecta - $120.60 .10 cent Superfecta - $54
A fast pace never really materialized and the speed and pressers took advantage. Informed Decision made it three in a row with a convincing win. Ventura, pace compromised, finished second while Free Flying Soul held for third.Read More

  • Medlocke · Ventura, no question about it, is a top notch filly and will be a tough beat in this year's B.C. F&M Sprint. But I do think it can be done, by Informed Decision. Informed Decision really run's well on the pro-ride surface and has really been on a role in 2009 having won 5 of 6 starts with 1 third. She posted a similar record in 2008 going 5-0-1 in 7 starts, but skipping the F&M Sprint last year. She just look's like a filly that's in peak form right now and I think she'll carry that right on into Friday's F&M Sprint. · 826 days ago ·

  • mdracing69 · Too bad Indian Blessing is out of the Cup. She was much better on conventional dirt and would have been a bet-against underlay in the Filly & Mare Sprint. · 833 days ago ·

  • christiecat · May be reading a bit too much between the lines, but I wasn't surprised Baffert decided to pass with Indian Blessing. More than the surface, I think it's the fact that Ventura is once again sitting on a huge race over the Pro Ride for Bobby Frankel. I like Informed Decision, also, but believe she'll be no match for Ventura in this race. Was hoping for some kind of value w/Ventura if Informed Decision, Indian Blessing and Sara Louise all ran. But, I've learned never to count on Baffert to be sporting, which would have been the case if he'd entered Indian Blessing. Believe they're all running for second behind Ventura. Still a good race but would have been better w/Baffert's filly. Thanks for nothing, Bob. · 832 days ago ·

To paraphrase Samuel Clemens, who knew a little something about horse racing, the reports of ZENSATIONAL's (Unbridled's Song) invincibility have been greatly exaggerated. That thought came to mind in recent weeks as the final preps for the Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) yielded at least two contenders wh...Read More
