  • ruffian75 · In 1997, I went to Saratoga, to see the Travers Stakes. Four days prior to the Travers, Chris McCarron's mom had died. Her loss caused him uncertainty as to whether or ride, or not. His family urged him on, to ride for mom. He rode Deputy Commander to victory, to an emotional Winner's Circle. The next day, I was on a flight to Chicago, to catch my plane out of Chicago. Chirs was on the plane, flying to Chicago for the Arlington Million. I wanted to say something to him, but in his moment of mourning, I said nothing. But, in my heart, I felt his anguish. I was very inspired by his presence, and, I only wished him, and his family, the best. For what I couldn't tell you, I would like to say, that you were a great jockey, and an inspiration to all. · 340 days ago ·
