Going into this Derby you knew that it was going to be won by a deep closer as the projected early pace on paper appeared to be blistering. Monarchos was a logical win pick but most gratified by the Invisible Ink finish for second. This kicked off a series of second place bombs coming out of the Pletcher barn in Derby (Bluegrass Cat) and susequent BC races (Friendly Island)
