Run at 6 furlongs, the race featured Milky Way Farm’s Mountain Ridge. Mountain Ridge, a runner-up in the Hyde Park Stakes by a neck, was an up and coming star in the shadow of his peer, the indomitable Sky Larking. Eight horses went to the post, and when the bell rung Stagehand had broken slowly under Jack Westrope who was riding him for the first time. The pair were eighth at the first call, and then passed a horse to be seventh. That was all the running Stagehand did as he glided home second to last. It was quite a race, but between Chaps and Mountain Ridge, who dueled for the lead.
