At least that's what I'm hoping for Saturday. Ranjiv Maragh is a up and coming jockey and proving to be one of the best. I've seen all of Radiohead and Aw... moreome Act's races in Great Britain on either attheraces.com or on RacingUK. Radiohead is a colt that's looked quite impressive in the UK on grass. Awesome Act, as well has had some success on grass, but has not been as effective over the surface as Radiohead. In yesterday's Florida Derby, I thought Edgar Prado may have taken Radiohead a bit too wide in the race. Even still, Radiohead was well beaten on conventional dirt in the Florida Derby. Awesome Act, however, is a different story. Although not as established on Turf as Radiohead, he certainly has taken immediately to the conventional dirt tracks that he has raced on since coming to the U.S. I still think, to date today, that Awesome Act's run in winning the Gotham Stakes at Aqueduct, is the most impressive Derby prep performance that I've seen yet. That's not to say that another Derby contender couldn't still emerge with a more impressive performance. Given that the Louisiana Derby, the Arkansas Derby, the Santa Anita Derby, and the Toyota Bluegrass Stakes are all still pending on the racing schedule. JMO. |
