He has several things working in his favor in order to go off with double digit odds. First, he's a California horse and second, he's not trained by Baffert. So he avoids the East Coast bias and the Baffert bias (though he has JH, a hall of fame trainer). Next, his sire sort of sucks. But skip back one generation and you see how regally bred he is; the A.P. Indy line, Raise A Native/Native Dancer on both sire and dam sides. He has pretty much the exact same sire side pedigree as current flavor of the week- El Padrino. One potential threat to his odds could be a romp in the SA Derby, as that race is shaping up to be stacked with talent. Hope he makes it, $100 to win on 5/5. |
