| | Dark Mirage Persian Road | E. King M. Ycaza | | airedale2008 Dark Mirage was a diminutive filly weighing 710 pounds. Her deaf dam had no ears and there was nothing but laughter at the 1966 Keeneland yearling sal... more when the race horse who resembled a Shetland pony stepped into the auction ring. The small package turned into a speedster, winning the first Filly Triple Crown by a combined 28 lengths. She placed second only to Dr. Fager for 1968 HOY in the colt’s record breaking year, bumping Damascus to third. Injured in the Santa Margarita Handicap when she jumped over a cellophane wrapper blowing on the track, she was retired and scheduled to be bred to the Good Doctor. Sadly the injury did not heal and the Tiny Tigress with the big heart was put down at age four. |

| | Dahlia Vaguely Noble | M. Zilber | | rafirox In your opinion, what was the best crop of all time? I think 1970's crop was the best because of the incredible quality AND quantity that was develope... more. Secretariat- One of if not he greatest racehorse of all time. He won the 1973 Triple Crown, beating Sham, he broke the track record in the Kentucky Derby while running each quarter faster than the last, he showed incredible acceleration in the Preakness and he obviously romped the Belmont by 31 lengths will trashing the record. He went on to a solid three year old season and appeared to be better on the turf! Forego- Probably one of the top 10 racehorses of all time. Winning the Malboro Cup carrying tons of weight! He was so agile and flexible, he could run any race against top competition. Sham- Despite losing to Secretariat, he too beat the Kentucky Derby track record. He was a pretty good horse that could have won the Triple Crown if not for Secretariat. Dahlia- Very good racemare who competed against the best of the best. She won stakes races all over the world and unlike MOST top racemares; she duplicated her performances in the shed. Our Native- Was a decent horse with an ok record. Linda's Chief- Owned California from 1972-1974 and I've heard MANY experts say that he could beat Sham. Stop the Music- Pretty good racehorse and remains in many blood today... Forgetting anyone? On Bloodhorse Top 100, this crop alone has #2 Secretariat, #8 Forego, and #50 Dahlia. Pretty impressive. |

Haratio Luro used to say don't squeeze the lemon ... morery about saving some of a horse in a race. I believe they were saving Rags to Riches for better things down the road. We've also seen times when good mares race well but their offspring cann't get the job done. Especially when the industry places so much emphisis on who the dam is. So whats your opinion about Storm Flags Flying or My Flag ? They were good fillies ,yet didn't win the Belmont against such a nice colt the likes of Curlin. So why not like Rags to Riches? |

Sunline was the first horse ever to be inducted into a racing Hall Of Fame, whilst still active on the track. Not to forget she beat Champion Stayer and 13 G1 winner Tie The Knot, multiple times. Sunline was finally put to rest after battling Laminitis for 9 months. Sunline was one of those horses where you knew they gave 100% even if they ran last. Sunline was named New Zealand Horse Of The Year in 2000 and 2001 and Australian Horse Of The Year in 2000, 2001 and 2002. Also being named Australia Middle Distance Champion in 2000 and 2001.
