|kaitlinefree1 after watching several documentaries & reading a lot about Secretariat, its unreal how smart this horse actually was. he was truly something spectacul... morer, something we will never see again.
|9.33||Man o' War|
|airedale2008 My first racetrack was Saratoga Race Course, across the street from the National Museum of Racing. The “Graveyard of Champions” saw Man o' War beaten ... moren his only loss by Upset, Gallant Fox defeated by Jim Dandy and Secretariat lose to Onion. The oldest organized sporting venue in America oozes history, and so far is much the best for me. What are your favorite tracks?
|kaitlinefree1 if you could make a field for the Kentucky Derby of past winners that were NOT Triple Crown winners, who would you pick?
|kaitlinefree1 what are some good racing books? my mom was asking me what i wanted for Christmas, & i want a few books. i already have the Horse God Built on my list... more any suggestions?!
|Houstonvamp OOPS sorry I got a little carried away.......He will be a quarter horse winner......but in the money ......we hope.
|airedale2008 Who had the best two year old season in America? It’s a tossup between many good ones, including Citation, Man o’ War, Affirmed and Native Dancer. The... moreparamount three year old season certainly belongs to Citation, who won 19 of 20, with a second to Saggy at muddy Havre de Grace three weeks before his muddy Derby. He even took the Jersey Stakes between the Preakness and the Belmont. Big Cy defeated older horses 7 times as a three year old, including Horse of the Year Armed twice in his first two races. These early season victories prompted Sunny Jim Fitzsimmons to utter the praise “Up to this point Citation’s done more than any horse I ever saw, and I saw Man o’ War.” Ranked #3 by Blood-Horse, the leading money winner of the world had the honor of being the first champion to be painted by Richard Stone Reeves.
|warrena THE BEST LOOK AT RECORD>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
|AllenJoyner If you rank the greatest racehorses of all time, if the most important criteria is the strength of the competition, surely Kelso is the best. No horse... morein history defeated more great horses...it reads like a who's who of the the first half on the 1960's, including Carry Back, Gun Bow, Bald Eagle, Tompion, Never Bend, Beau Purple, Quadrangle, Roman Brother, Crimson Satan, Jaipur, Ridan and Pia Star...most of the time conceding loads of weight.
|kaitlinefree1 one of my favorite horses ever. is there anyone that knows any facts about him or any interesting information?
|rafirox I'll just post this under a notable (Native Dancer). Who do you think was the best racehorse to compete in the 1950's? Citation? Native Dancer? Round ... moreable? Tim Tam? etc, etc.
|rafirox Who do you think was the best racehorse to compete in the 1940's? Citation? Whirlaway? Count Fleet? Alsab? Post, discuss and debate, please! I'll give... morethe nod to Citation, but not by much. I hope one of these two threads blow up.
|rafirox Since the majority of posters thought the best racehorse in the 1970's, not named Secretariat, was Forego.... Who do you think was the greatest geldin... more ever to live? Kelso or Forego?
|tmallios1 Buck,i do not know if you will be tuned into Belmont Park racing on Sunday.If by chance you are,please look at the 2nd race.The Phipps are debuting a ... moreyr. old colt named " Survival". I was told to keep an eye on him,not because he has been burning up the track.But by the easiness he moves.The breeding is ( Giants Causeway/Matlacha Pass ) I am sure you are aware.She just happens to be the dam of (Point of Entry, Streaker and Pine Island to name a few) They tell me that he looks like a Dirt horse,unlike his famous half brother.Similar to the comments they told me about Honor Code prior to his race.HC was a half to the very highly Chad Brown turfer Noble Tune who placed in last years jeuvenile turf for colts.Fact Shug is debuting at a mile,lends credence to the fact they are in here with the intent to win.With a potential star like this,i do not think you want to be chasing the Maiden ranks to long.You want to jump to the next level immediately.Javier Castellano is a major asset.He rides some for the Phipps,but not many.For them to secure his services.They must have a good feeling.I kidded my friends that they should not go on the limb as they say with a breed like this.I am very urious to see him run.Average morning works have him at 6-1 ML odds.There are some high profile horses and connections in the race. I know what direction i will be staring at.
|airedale2008 Round Table and Bold Ruler were foaled on the same night at Claiborne. Bold Ruler garnered Horse of the Year honors in 1957, Round Table in 1958. Thes... more greats together own a whopping 18 awards, and stood at their birthplace after distinguished racing careers. What other pair of stablemates had such exceptional records? Secretariat and Riva? Others?
|terri.drennen Those that are putting Zenyatta over Ruffian simply do NOT remember Ruffian! There is NO way Zenyatta would have caught her! Ruffian was a sprinter, a... moredistance horse, and a show horse all in one. We will never see that again. Why did we have to lose her like that is just like why did we have to loose Dale E. #3 like that, both wrapped in black, and on the track. No, sorry, the 'newbies' will put Zenyatta or Rachel first, but Ruffian would have run them into the ground trying to catch her beautiful self. Remember, only ONE horse was said to have better than Secretariate; and that is our gorgeous Black Queen, The Greatest Ever, Ruffian
|Jim Awesome Can someone tell me about this one's racing career?
|gthorse Swaps - very under-rated great horse. If he had run in New York and set just a few track records, the would be in the Top10 or Top 5 all time. He ... moreet more records on more tracks than any horse I have seen.
|bold ruler 2014 Should be a exciting year for two year olds. The Zenyatta colt Cosmic One sired by Bernardini will be two and the Colt bre from Rachel Alexandra ... moreired by Curlin will also be a two year old colt. Hope both are healthy and ready to make the debuts this year. Anyone heard how they are doing health wise?
|mikesek A definite inclusion in the Top 20 is in order.
|airedale2008 Jaipur and Ridan went head to head all the way around in the 1962 Travers. One of the best ever Mid Summer Derbies, with Jaipur winning by a nose to t... moreke the 3 year old colt award.
|Jim Awesome I have recently been studying the Top 250. I am done studying about 15 horses.... Now, will somebody tell me what is so good about this horse, and wha... more he accomplished? I see he won the Belmont and KY Derby.
|Sullivan Just added a photo of the comet's clubfoot
|tcglory Won his maiden race against 23 rivals at Belmont Park on May 29, 1907 as the 6/5 favorite. I did not know that and that is crazy
Man o' War
|kaitlinefree1 interesting fact. my grandma was born the same year War Admiral won the Triple Crown. my grandpa was also born the year of a Triple Crown. anyone want... moreto guess what one?
Ole Bob Bowers
|airedale2008 John Henry’s sire Ole Bob Bowers sold for $900. His dam, Once Double, was undistinguished as a runner or producer. The terrific gelding was from breed... moreng that might best be described as plebeian. Wise Dan’s dam Lisa Danielle won once, a MSW, in seven races. Sire Wiseman’s Ferry’s stud fee was $8,500. How often does the union of a spectacular stallion and mare produce magic on the track, and how often does random luck create a superstar from rather mediocre parents?

|Shanon A very good horse
|TimSmith It looks to me that many times in her career she was a bit out of shape and would finish 3,4,5 and then respond to racing a ton in a short time and pu... more together a long win streak.. The pattern is no differnet in her last few races..
|CreativeCause This filly was the closest to have ever won the triple crown won the kentucky derby and placed in the preakness and belmont. Really should have won th... more preakness too.

|clemmbo Shared Belief is my top choice in the Derby race.The win on a cushion track was very impressive.

|njbucks Thanks Icy. Chenery is hardly an isolated instance, as I don't know of any major breeding and/or racing organization where the owners got rich soley f... moreom the success of the stable operation. It seems almost universal that the big horse owners were wildly successful in some other business pursuit (or inherited big bucks from a wildly successful ancestor) before starting into the horse business. At best, even though it provides a income for numerous empolyees of the operation, for the owners it remains an expensive hobby with very low (if any) profit margins as compared to their other business pursuits. Since most are, or were, wholly owned family outfits the tax effects of the death of the owner(s) can have profound impact on the contiuned viability of the stable which rarely outlive the primary owner. I always thought Penny took the most prudent course. It was a gamble, but the Secretariat name is still making money for her and her heirs forty years later as evidenced by all the swag for sale over at secretariat.com. This one horse has become one of the most profitable brand names in this, or any other sport. Penny is no longer in the horse racing or breeding business, but is full guns in the Secretariat business and doing damn well at that.
|8.60||Will Take Charge|
|TimSmith Knowing now how good he is ,do you think he had a shot in the derby if he hadnt been cut off at the 1/4 pole? I do
|rafirox Does anyone know of quality books written about Nashua? I do not know much about him and I would like to learn about him. Thanks in advance.
