I thought... moreit looked apparent from fairly early on in the race that St Nicholas Abbey was going to win the Sheema. He looked so relaxed and confident from the moment he stepped out of the starting gate. He cruised along through the race looking as if he were confident he could run right by Gentildonna at his own leisure, and that's pretty much what he did. The G1 Racing Post Trophy, G1 Coronation Cup X2, G1 Breeders Cup Turf, and now the G1 Sheema Classic. Not a bad resume to go to the stud barn with once his racing days are over. |

The same Brown Panther that won the King George V Stakes at Ascot in a romp, and was 2nd in both the G3 Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury and the G1 English St. Leger at Doncaster. Normally, a colt that finished 2nd in the G2 Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial, 4th in the G1 Epsom Derby, and 3rd in the G1 Irish Derby the way Memphis Tennessee did in 2011 would make him the top 3yr.old colt in just about any barn. But his solid efforts in those 3 races got overshadowed by Treasure Beach winning the G3 Chester Vase, G1 Irish Derby, G1 Secretariat Stakes, and G1 Epsom Derby 2nd. Good to see Memphis Tennessee finally get a solid group stakes win on his merit his way. Meaning that he wasn't having to run in a style to help set the Ormonde Stakes up for other stablemates like he was forced to do in both the Epsom and Irish Derbies last season. Really like this horse, a lot!! |
