Alpha the top dog in Jim Dandy

Saturday's 10th race (5:45pm ET) from Saratoga is the Grade 2 Jim Dandy for 3-year-olds traveling a mile and an eighth on the main track.

#1 ALPHA (5-2) has only run two subpar races and both were under the Twin Spires in the G1 BC Juvenile and G1 Ky Derby. He has fired Exacta shots in all 5 New York starts including romping debut win here last year. He is working well for this and projects a ground saving tactical trip under Dominguez.

#2 Fast Falcon (10-1) is on the upswing for Zito and is bred to handle this trip.

#3 Atigun (8-1) is going the right way for McPeek and fired a local bullet July 21.

#4 Neck ‘n Neck (3-1) exits back-to-back facile scores at Churchill but he is 0-for-5 away from that venue. Goncalves rides him well and a tactical trip is anticipated.

#7 Liaison (7-2) has done the bulk of his damage on synthetic and has not won since the CashCall Futurity last year.

#6 Teeth of the Dog (5-1) has won two straight including G2 Dwyer but he was always considered a second stringer to stablemate Union Rags.

#5 My Adonis (20-1) should show speed and #8 Prospective (15-1) seems like a Grade 3 type.

THE PLAYS:

$36 to win #1

$1 Trifecta 1/2-3/ALL ($12)

$1 Trifecta 1/ALL/2-3 ($12)

I liked 1/4/7 cold but I don't bet off tracks ever, losing proposition long term.

Congrats to Alpha, a really great race horse!

Cool. Glad you made some $$, thechris213. I go way back with Alpha. He was my original top ranked Derby contender when I started my list last September. Nice to see him develop into a professional racehorse.

Wilkes/Goncalves is usually a confident bet for me at Churchill. I've always liked Alpha. So I was able to make off with a nice exacta and scored some win money.

If horses could carry their race track with them, the 8 Pros would run away and hide from this group, but alas that just does not happen very often. ONLY Alpha's last race (not the Derby either because for most horse that is an aberration) puts that one anywhere close to overcoming the predictive pacesetter 3, Antigun....doubt that one can hand on here however. On that pace the races remains wide open with 2 4 6 8 all running after them.......Still confusing until one sees how the track is playing (early/late)

if you note, Alpha MAY be a horse for course as BOTH his big triumphs occured on the same strip

I've always liked Alpha he's a fighter. Saratoga handicapping is foreign to me thought. Not informed on the biases and such.

confusing race, particularly with what was winning yesterday in the mud...Will have to wait until 5 or 6 run to see how the track is playing before ANY estimation can be done.
