Today’s ninth race (3/8) at Santa Anita is the 77th running of the Gr. I $750,000 Santa Anita Handicap.  This race will consist of four-year-olds and upward running the classic distance of a mile and a quarter.

Post Time: 4:00pm PT

#1 – Will Take Charge (2-1):  Was a tough race for me to pick a winner but eventually ended up with Will Take Charge.  Last time out, the son of Unbridled’s Song was charging hard in the Donn Handicap but ran out of room and eventually lost to Lea.  The increased distance should suit him nice and the tune up from the Donn may be just what this horse needed.  Luis Saez will ride for trainer D. Wayne Lukas.

#2 – Mucho Macho Man (9-5):  Has won three races in a row dating back to last September.  The six year old son of Macho Uno is in career form and will be very tough to beat here.  I am banking on a Will Take Charge, Mucho Macho Man exacta repeat from the BC Classic.  Just feel that these two are head and shoulders above the rest.  Gary Stevens will once again be in the saddle for trainer Kathy Ritvo.

#7 – Game On Dude (5-2): Seems to have lost a step from last season and will stay away from him here today.  Should be interesting to see what Mike Smith does with the seven year old gelding but he will be up on the pace regardless.  Game On Dude has earned more than $5.5 million dollars on the track for trainer Bob Baffert.

#6 – American Blend (20-1):  Joe Talamo will ride for trainer Carla gains today.  America Blend finished third in the Gr. II San Antonio back on February 8th going a mile and an eighth.  The increased distance should benefit him and could very well see this horse hit the board today.
