Today’s seventh race (3/16) at Santa Anita is the 76th running of the $300,000 Gr. I Santa Margarita.  This race will consist of four year old mares and upward running 1 1/8 miles over the dirt.

#2 – Brushed by a Star (7-2) will be making his first start since January 26th where he finished second behind Joyful Victory in the Houston Lady’s Classic.  The two will face off again for the third time today with Brushed by a Star finishing ahead in two of the three.  The Eddington mare has won two graded stakes races (both Gr. II) and will be looking to add the Gr. I to her resume today.  Victor Espinoza will get the mount today.

The morning line favorite of the group is the three horse, Joyful Victory (9-5).  The grey mare was last seen  going wire to wire in the Houston Ladies Classic back on January 26th.  The daughter of Tapit ran a career best 98 speed figure last time out for trainer Jerry Jones so we will see if she can repeat that today.  Rosie Napravnik will take the irons.

#6 – More Chocolate (5-2) posted the best speed figure of her early career last out with a 97 in the Gr. II La Canada Stakes.  The John Sadler trainee made the switch to dirt last time out and will get Martin Garcia aboard.  The Malibu Moon filly has eight career starts with three wins, one second, and one third.
