Midnight Transfer rises to task in G2 San Carlos

POST TIME 7:07 PM EST--This year's edition of the G2 San Carlos has come up very competitive.  The field of 8 headlined by #7 The Lumber Guy will negotiate the 7 panels on a fast surface at Santa Anita.  Pacesetter, #1 Comma to the Top will be your pace leader but will have it easier up front than he did when facing speedster Private Zone in the G2 Palos Verdes. However, unlike others that are anticipating a softer pace, I believe a rejuvated (post hoof injury) #7 The Lumber Guy will be placed on the heals of Comma to the Top applying pressure throughout as leaving that one on a clear lone lead would be dangerous.  You can also count on #3 Justin Phillip to be within two lengths of the lead ensuring an honest pace.  In analyzing this field, I came to two conclusions regarding the win spot.  If The Lumber Guy is anything close to his Fall 2012 form, than he's the clear winner here (note, that a long layoff should not be a problem and recent bullet work indicates he may be back near his best).  If he needs the race, then I believe, #5 Midnight Transfer looms tops here.  His return to the track after a 9-month vacation in an Optional Claimer was eye catching.  Expect a move forward off that one and he may be even better at the 7 furlong distance.  Trainer, Carla Gaines has always been high on this Hard Spun colt and her patience with him will pay off this year.  To complete the Exacta, you could make a case for just about any of the other horses here.
