Going with Tritap again in Strub

Saturday's 8th race (4:07pm PT) from Santa Anita Park is the Grade II Strub Stakes for 4-year-olds traveling nine furlongs on the main track.

#4 Tritap (5-2) was my 9-1 value top in the San Fernando and he almost got the job done from the outside post that day. Nakatani knows him now and he can win this with a forward move 2nd off the shelf. He improved in his second career start and earned a better number in his 2nd start off a layoff last September so the move forward pattern is entwined in his pp's. He shows two local moves since his last and the Asmussen trainee sports a win (9.5f) and a 2nd (9f) in his two longest races.

#3 Guilt Trip (5-2) was finishing well in the middle of the track vs. my top Jan 12. Today's added distance should not hurt his cause and he is an obvious threat from off the pace if he runs back to his last.

#7 Stephanoatsee (4-1) can seemingly run all day and has been competitive vs. some decent sorts including Alpha, Called to Serve, and today's rival Handsome Mike. Motion excels with this type of layoff runner and he will try to get involved late under Leparoux.

#2 Fed Biz (2-1) wired my top last time and figures in the hunt throughout from the rail. He dropped 2 of 3 prior decisions from the inside post and he broke slow in both of those races. He cannot afford to make any mistakes in this competitive heat and couple prove ripe for the picking at nine furlongs.

#6 Handsome Mike (6-1) chased Fed Biz before fading off the shelf last time. Gutierrez won't let Fed Biz get away with an easy lead and those two could set the table for the stalkers.

The Plays:

$18 to win #4

$6 Exacta 4-3

$3 Trifecta Key 4/3-7 ($6)

Don't know what Nakatani was thinking dueling Tritap into submission.

Great minds think a like, Jarrod :). I also like Tritap here, and my second choice is Guilt Trip. Also, posted a Play of the Day on this one.

Contenders: 2 Fed Biz 4 Tritap 7 Stephanoatsee Father and son won this Bold Bidder and Spectacular...I loved that years Hollywood Derby winner, who ran second to War Heim, Hanalei Bay (the one horse, one trainer, one exercise rider with a 50 year old jock Merlin Volzke.....The owner said his silks (brown spots on a light blue background) came from remembering his work shirt after it had been splashed with cement. This little guy ran IN THE MONEY with some of the best of his day, even a show against Ack Ack. Named for an inlet in Hawaii, we all went to visit him at the farm and found him protecting a group of new born kittens.........If you can't find good stories at a race track, you are deaf!
